- What sort of profession in the wizarding world would you choose and why?
I think probably a Healer. I love all the weird and wonderful medical conditions that crop up in the Wizarding World and it’s a profession that allows me to have contact with many different people, which I really like. I also think that it’s a profession in which you can really make a difference while doing something intensely rewarding and fulfilling.
- If you could teach one class at Hogwarts, what would it be and why?
Hmm, I think probably Charms or Defence Against the Dark Arts. Both appeal to me as very useful classes that involve lots of practical wand-waving. I think they are both classes that have a lot of potential for being fun classes to teach and I would love being able to see and appreciate my pupils’ progress.
- This year, The TriWizard Tournament is being held once again and you're of age. Do you put your name in the Goblet? Why or why not?
I would! I wouldn’t be able to resist seeing if the Goblet chose me. I can be really competitive and ambitious if something like this comes along and I think although I’d be incredibly nervous of the actual competition, I’d still put my name in.
- If you could choose your animagus form, what would it be and why?
I would love to be an otter, although I can’t decide what my form would actually be. Otters are wonderfully playful and fun creatures, but also strong and intelligent - and of course they love water! At home both on land and in water, they strike me as well adapted, and also curious about their surroundings. It’s not an amazingly practical choice, however - I mean, they aren’t exactly inconspicuous. The strong swimming might be an advantage, however.
- What HP character do you identify with most and why?
Ginny Weasley. As a youngest child myself, I appreciate her efforts to become known for her own actions, rather than of her family. I love the way she has learnt to battle her brothers’ age and strength against them by using her wits and the ways she deals with them is pure genius. She also has a temper similar to mine, but is also quick to forgive. I admire her fiery independence, her perchance to smile on life and her ability to focus on whatever needs to be done. I don’t really understand the Ginny-hate around - she’s only young and so yes, sometimes she makes mistakes - but don’t we all?
- What would you see if you looked into the Mirror of Erised?
It’s hard to avoid giving an extremely generic answer here and truly, I don’t think I rally know my heart’s deepest desire. There are plenty of things that I want, but my deepest wish? I cannot know it. I think it would probably involve me and someone I loved together, and with all the people I care about happy and at peace. I also have a deep need to be acknowledged and recognised so perhaps that would play a part.
- If you won a million dollars, how would you spend it?
I’d pay the rent for all my housemates so that none of us need worry about money anymore. I’d save some for the future, probably, but I’m the kind of person to blow it all treating myself and my friends and family on things that I know people want but can’t justify buying for themselves. I’m not cautious enough to save it all. I would much prefer to live in the present than always to be looking towards the future.
- What was your ideal job as a kid? Has that changed? What is your ideal job now?
I changed my mind about once a week when I was a kid about what I wanted to do. I seem to remember that being a teacher and being an author stuck around the longest though. Now? I’m currently training to be a vet and my ideal job would be to be out there as a practicing veterinary surgeon, working with the animals and their owners in an hands-on, small practice so that I can deal with all sorts of animals and really get to know my clients.
- If you were able to invent one spell, potion, or charm, what would it do, what would you use it for or how would you use it, and what would you call it?
I spell to transport me around the country would be good. I live in a small village miles from anywhere and I don’t drive so getting around to see my friends and everything else becomes a major task. I’m also quite lazy, so having a transporter would probably be very bad for me because I would use it excessively, but the idea certainly appeals.
- If you were to face a boggart, what would it turn into? And what does it turn into when you throw the counter-spell, Riddikulus?
I’m scared of more things than I would like to me - spiders, sharks, crazy axe-muderers… all the usual. But I think my true deepest fear is rejection. I don’t quite know how the Boggart would display this, but perhaps by family and friends turning away and ignoring me. I think the only way that could turn into something I could laugh at is if they all started doing some crazy dance as they turned away XD.
- What do you look for in a friend?
When I first meet someone, I mainly look to see if they’re someone who makes me laugh and who I can have a good conversation with. I like people who are fun and a little crazy that I can have a giggle with. Common interests are good, as are some friendly discussions. My closest friends, however, are those that I know I can trust to stand by me and who will listen if I need to talk and will support me, as well as all of the above.
- What trait most annoys you about other people?
People who look down on others for the worst reasons. Being superior to anyone is not a claim to be made lightly, and I dislike people who are pretentious and up themselves to the point where they consider everyone else automatically below them. Everyone is different, and therefore if you compare too people they will have some qualities better than the other and some worse. No one is perfect and therefore should not consider themselves superior.
- What do you think are your top five abilities or qualities?
1. Generosity - if I have something, I like to share it. I love to make other people happy and making people smile. It can be in the giving of material things which is easy and not as meaningful, or something more.
2. Friendly - I would like to think of myself as being approachable and open to people I meet. I like to be sociable and to meet new people.
3. Optimistic - I try to keep my outlook on life as positive as possible. Yes, so we all have days when that fails and I can whinge with the best of them, but in the long term I like to believe that life will be good.
4. Caring - I can’t stand to see people unhappy or ill and I tend to rush in and try to solve things for people. Can be good, can be really bad.
5. Empathy - I am good at understanding why people do things and putting myself in other people’s shoes. I try not to judge but just to understand and to give whatever advice I can - if it’s wanted.
- What do you think are your top five weaknesses or worst qualities?
1. Untactful - despite me saying that I can emphasise with people, I also have a remarkable tendency to rush in and say something completely inappropriate. I’m definitely a living, breathing case of ‘speaking before thinking’.
2. Self-conscious - I can be ridiculously shy around people I don’t know to the point of stammering and talking too quickly and nervously. I tend to follow the crowd because I would rather blend in than stand out.
3. Attention-seeker - it’s weird to be shy and an attention seeker, but it’s so true. I try to curb it as much as possible especially since it tends to cause some clashes in my personality. A spoilt, youngest child, I am rather too used to getting my way and having people’s attention.
4. Procrastination - it’s a trait that makes me extremely angry with myself. I know there are things that need to be done and eventually will pay off for me, but I just don’t have the self-will to force myself to do them.
5. My temper - I can get very angry over the smallest thing. I can usually control and hide my anger but when it comes out I just can’t help myself and often say things that really hurt people and that I regret for a long time afterwards.
- Define in your own words the following key traits:
- Courage: Courage is what allows people to do what they think is right, even though they know it will be hard, even if the very thought of it scares them. Standing up to your personal beliefs and convictions, even in the face of opposition and derision.
- Loyalty: Standing by someone or something, through he good and the bad. Trusting someone on what they say, even when all evidence points to something else and not deserting at the first sign of trouble.
- Intelligence: Intelligence is not just the ability to learn huge amounts of information. It’s also about the capacity to understand - both figures, facts and people. True intelligence includes being able to look at problems and opinions from different angles and to reach decisions without help of persuasion from others.
- Ambition: Those who strive to succeed at whatever they do, who want to get to the top of whatever mountain they aim their sights up. I always think of ambition going hand in hand with incredible focus and determination. Being willing to fight for whatever you want and not being satisfied until you achieve your goals.
