- What sort of profession in the wizarding world would you choose and why?
I'd write trashy romance for today's traditional housewife modern witch. It's not exactly a glorious ambition, I'm well aware of that, but I can't help but think how funny it'd be to write books about dashing pureblood wizards whisking innocent muggle-born maidens into their arms, taking them to their um, castles? Mansions? Either way, that'd probably amount to slightly radical literature, so maybe it'd be more a case of 'girl finds out she's a purebloode engaged to so-and-so' or something. So, yes. I'd get to write about the sordid fantasies that make people like Molly Weasley (don't shudder, please, it's unkind) tick; and in the end, don't those fantasies say a lot about a society? But I ramble. To summarise: it'd be really fun, and I'd get to waft around in floaty pink robes and change my surname to something like 'lovewand'. Total win.
- If you could teach one class at Hogwarts, what would it be and why?
Divination. I really feel like Divination is pretty cool - magic is presented as something you can learn, and I think Divination really taps into that intuitive, mystical and ineffable aspect that you can't learn. Which probably makes it a totally awful subject to teach, but I imagine when you get the right connection with a student it's a really cool, communal, shared experience. Or a fun way to scare kids into total crazyness. ("I see death in your future. Death and no passes on your NEWTs.")
- This year, The TriWizard Tournament is being held once again and you're of age. Do you put your name in the Goblet? Why or why not?
No. No, no no. Risking your life for no good reason is stupid, in my opinion. Risk it for something you believe in, if you have to. Not for a trophy. I understand there are people who like to do crazy things like go on rollercoasters that go upside down, or swim in water where they cannot see the bottom, but I am not one of them. Especially if there's no good reason to do it.
- If you could choose your animagus form, what would it be and why?
A cat. I'm allergic to them, so some part of me finds the idea of becoming a cat sort of ironic. Also, they're quick, they're shot and/or eaten less often than birds, fish and deer, they're not as conspicuous as lions or elephants (though being an elephant would rock), and though I'm not entirely sure, I don't think they're as into sniffing crotches and butts as dogs are. Also, they're flexible, and I can't even touch my toes, woe. They're also nice to look at. That's really the extent of my reasoning.
- What HP character do you identify with most and why?
Luna Lovegood; not an unusual answer, I'm sure, but I really do. She's weird and people mock her which I'm sure a lot of people out there can relate to, but she really seems to enjoy her weirdness. I do think she's aware of what people think of her, but she just isn't bothered by it. I am bothered by it, to be fair, but at the same time I know what most pleases the people around me AND what most pleases me is acting like a total oddball. And there's something stylish about bottle-cap necklaces and radish earrings, and I'd totally wear a bottle-cap necklace if it wouldn't totally scratch at my skin (which it would). I have more of a temper, but that disconnection with reality? I can relate to that.
- What would you see if you looked into the Mirror of Erised?
I honestly don't know what my heart's desire is. To be happy, maybe? To be loved? I guess it'd be to live in a world that couldn't hurt me - yes, I know, soppy. So fine, I'd see a world that couldn't interact with me unless I wanted it to, sort of like clicking in and out off a website. XD Total sad-assery.
- If you won a million dollars, how would you spend it?
I'd buy a really nice house in a good area (hopefully an area where prices would keep going up, so I could sell it and make a profit!), and some designer clothes and shoes because that'd be totally awesome. Then if I still had some left over I'd get some advice on investing it, and keep the rest as a nest egg for a rainy day. Because I live in England, and it is God's own truth that every other day is pretty much rainy.
- What was your ideal job as a kid? Has that changed? What is your ideal job now?
As a kid I wanted to be a fairy princess, and then a teacher. Now I'd love to be a writer, or work in publishing or in the fashion industry (but not as a model - I can be vaguely realistic). In fact, I just want a job where I could be creative, because I'll write whether it's my carreer or not; I don't think I want to be a teacher, though, because people who won't learn make me want to beat my head repeatedly against solid objects. Therefore, my head would become pulp. And I honestly didn't like being a child. Why would I want to teach them?
- If you were able to invent one spell, potion, or charm, what would it do, what would you use it for or how would you use it, and what would you call it?
I'd make a charm to give you wings, because there's something so dream-fulfilling about that. It's not the same being on a broomstick, or levitating or whatever. Wings are cool. Wings are kind of badass. You get to be that fairy princess, or batman, or... well, you get the point. It would be fun, and thrilling, and just generally enjoyable. I'm not sure what I'd call it. Maybe, 'I believe I can fly' with compulsory humming of the tune to follow.
- If you were to face a boggart, what would it turn into? And what does it turn into when you throw the counter-spell, Riddikulus?
Ugh, okay, time for a slightly vague answer. The boggart would turn into someone I've lost - I'm a firm believer that the dead should stay that way, because any thought to the contrary makes me sort of hysterical (there was an episode of Buffy that made me hide under a pillow and, well, nevermind, RAMBLING AGAIN). It'd probably turn into casper the friendly ghost upon riddikulus, because he is funny-cute, and I'd life, even though he was totally date-able in that one movie I forget the name of.
- What do you look for in a friend?
Trustworthyness; some attempt not to cruelly mock me. Normal mocking is acceptable! Someone who is as happy to give help as to accept it, who'd do as much for you as you'd do for them. I'm a little too trusting when it comes to people so um, you know, a friend who wouldn't stab in the back would be totally awesome. XD
- What trait most annoys you about other people?
Being two-faced. If you hate someone then please, for the love of cthulu, don't pretend to be their best buddy. It's common courtesy. I mean, would you want to think you were friends with someone who secretly hated you? No, of course not. At least, that's my general take on it.
- What do you think are your top five abilities or qualities?
Imagination. I have that in bucket-loads - far too much, really. Loyalty, because I can be sickeningly idealistic about people once I've latched onto them. Obessiveness is something I also have in spades, when it comes to things I love. I'm very erudite when I want to be, and sometimes when I don't. I litter conversations with long, pointless words and rambles; I find it endearing even if no one else does. Last of all, I'm an incurable optimist.
- What do you think are your top five weaknesses or worst qualities?
Ugh, I'm bad-tempered. I try and hide it, but I blow quicker than the lid of a kettle (does that even make sense?). I'm messy beyond belief, I'm shy and painfully awkward around large groups of people, I want group-approval far too much and hate the whole wanting it, and last of all, I'm far too trusting.
- Define in your own words the following key traits:
- Courage: Courage is being afraid of doing something and doing it anyway; fighting through the fear for a higher cause.
- Loyalty: Loyalty is about constancy. That is, standing by who are what you believe despite obstacles standing in your way.
- Intelligence: It's not about just learning facts and figures, but about being able to think about the box, and think with a brain that you shaped rather than a brain shaped by everyone else.
- Ambition: Ambition gets done down a lot, but it's important, in my opinion. It's a thirst for something better, for something more than what you have now or what you had in the past. It's all about striving for the unattainable, and becoming more than you thought you ever could be.
