What sort of profession in the wizarding world would you choose and why? Something where I get to travel. Something that pays a lot would be nice, too. Maybe a Ministry position in an interesting department (I hate being bored) or something like a foreign ambassador to other Ministries. I'd like to be influential. If all that fails, I'd like to be a cursebreaker for Gringotts. Who knows what kind of interesting artifacts I'd find, and who'd notice if I took a few?
If you could teach one class at Hogwarts, what would it be and why? History of Magic. The way we are taught our history reflects our view of the world and people around us. I love history and would like to be able to share that love with people, and I'd also like to know that I am influencing them through the knowledge I share. Plus, history can always be connected to current politics, and I am nothing if not interested in that, and I would always be willing to discuss it with my students.
This year, The TriWizard Tournament is being held once again and you're of age. Do you put your name in the Goblet? Why or why not? Money, fame...yes, I think I probably would. I'd probably talk myself out of it quite a few times before finally sticking my name in, as I'm not a huge fan of grievous bodily harm. Oh, well. You have to risk something to gain something, and the gains would be great.
If you could choose your animagus form, what would it be and why? I'd say probably a cat of some sort. A cat's lifestyle fits me well, spending large amounts of time just lazing around. A cat rules her territory and always looks out for number one, herself. I like that the form has ample means of self-protection, as well. A cat is agile, moving swiftly and sleekly and always looking good while doing it. It is said that a cat's motto is "no matter what you've done wrong, always try to make it look like the dog did it." Works for me.
What HP character do you identify with most and why? I identify with Snape because my intentions are often misunderstood. Also, people have decided to hate me and will badmouth me no matter what I do to prove that I am not, in fact, a horrible person. I feel that Snape is in this situation in the books.
I also feel a connection with Sirius. I am the black sheep of my family in my interests and my actions, and I cannot help but feel that one day I will do something that will cause them to ostracize me.
What would you see if you looked into the Mirror of Erised? Living forever, or at least for a very long time. I know it's petty, but my greatest fear is death, especially dying before I've had a chance to make my mark on the world.
If you won a million dollars, how would you spend it? I'd donate money to the college of my choice so I could get in easier, and then pay for my college education. The right college can help you get a foot in any door, so I'd be able to find a job that was both good and enjoyable to me. Then, I wouldn't have to worry about college loans for most of my life. The rest of the money I'd put in the bank for the time being...you never know what you'll need.
What was your ideal job as a kid? Has that changed? What is your ideal job now? There was some point when I wanted to be a marine biologist, but for the most part I've wanted to be a lawyer for a long time. However, a lot of that was because I grew up hearing my mom say that that was what I was going to become. Now that I'm on the verge of college, I'm rethinking it. Do I still want to go to law school? Yes, because being a lawyer pays well and I think I could enjoy it. But as an undergraduate I can major in anything I want, so I might pick history, French, Chinese, or international relations. I love languages and foreign countries.
Ideally? I'd like to work in a U.S. embassy in either France or China, or maybe even as an actual ambassador to one of those countries.
If you were able to invent one spell, potion, or charm, what would it do, what would you use it for or how would you use it, and what would you call it? I would probably create a potion that lengthens time but leaves your brain working at the same pace as "normal." Either that or I would do the opposite and make a potion that lets your brain move faster. That way, I could do things like finish a book in half the "real time" it would normally take me. Think of the things that could have been accomplished in history if the right people had had more time to think about them, or more time to do them. The potion would last a few hours or so and would have (ideally) no adverse aging effects on the body. It would be like living a life twice as long.
If you were to face a boggart, what would it turn into? And what does it turn into when you throw the counter-spell, Riddikulus? I think that, at this point in my life, it would turn into rejection letters from every college I'm applying to. In a few months, it obviously wouldn't be the same. When I used the counter-spell, they would turn into rejection letters from something stupid like a country club for stupid reasons like wearing a red skirt on the second Tuesday of the month.
What do you look for in a friend? Open-mindedness and someone who can keep up with me. I can't have my friend judging me rashly before looking deeper, and I'm always jumping from on thing to another. I also don't want someone who flakes out all the time, but someone who is all-work/study-and-no-play is just as bad.
What trait most annoys you about other people? It's going to sound dumb, but one of the things I hate the most is stupidity and ignorance in others. If it's a mental disorder, fine, but honestly people! Humans have HUGE brains. USE SOME OF THAT BEFORE YOU CUT ME OFF IN TRAFFIC!!! (etc.)
I also hate intolerant people. Especially people who shove their intolerance in other people's faces. For example: "Okay, I get it. You don't like gay people. SHUT UP and don't push it on me or condemn me to hell for thinking that they should have their own rights."
What do you think are your top five abilities or qualities?
Hmmm...I'm exuberant. I'm often energetic, and even when I'm not I can fake it very well. I use my energy to try to get other people up and doing things I'm interested in, as well.
Also, I'm rather manipulative. I don't personally think this is a bad thing, as I don't (usually) use it for things that would generally be called unscrupulous. It's just a skill I happen to posses. And it's fun, too.
I would also say that I'm very expressive (eloquent), and I easily communicate my ideas and needs to other people. I love to talk, and I also love a good argument (as long as it doesn't get too mean-spirited!). I love convincing people around to my point of view with smooth talking. It gives me a sense of victory when someone admits that I'm right. I also have NO issue with expressing my opinions, even if I'm outnumbered...even if it's the moral minority.
Fourth would be my intuition, I guess. I am a type of person who goes by whether things "click" for me or not. It's often kept me from getting caught. I also know that NOT following my intuition has caused some bad grades for me on past tests. Intuition accompanied by a cool head is the best way to go, in my opinion.
Last I guess is my creativity. Whether it's in problem-solving or plotting revenge, I'm the one people go to for clever, original schemes. I love coming up with new ways to do things.
What do you think are your top five weaknesses or worst qualities?
I am ridiculously stubborn. Once I get a hold of something, I will tear it apart until I get what I want. This applies to viewpoints, people, material objects, you name it. If I want that iPod, I will have it. If I think that what you're doing is stupid, I will argue. If I think I should have been the lead in that show, you will KNOW. I don't let go of things very easily at ALL. An elephant never forgets, and neither do I. Especially when you've hurt me or my friends. (I will get you back.)
Going along with my stubbornness, have a rather obsessive personality. Once I get an idea in my head, it must be satisfied. Once I've decided that something must be said, it will be said. Once I get a plot in my mind, I must test it out. This also applies to things like fanfiction. I spend a practically unhealthy amount of time reading it. But that's just how I work.
I can be really selfish at times, as well. I don't always mean to be, but even when I'm dealing with other people there is a corner of my mind that is thinking about myself. I can't help it. It's just how I am. I like instant gratification of my desires and when I don't get it I get tetchy. I often plot things for my own gain, and in most situations I'm looking to see what I can get out of it.
I am very vain, but it's weird because it's combined with low self-esteem. I have perfected subtly fishing for compliments to an art form, but sometimes I don't even know I'm doing it because I really am that insecure about many things.
And I'm lazy. I am the worst procrastinator I know. I will wait until the last minute to do everything and even then, if I don't want to do it, I'll do something else that I like better. I am also very fond of my sleep.
Define in your own words the following key traits:
- Courage: Risking yourself (or something/someone important) in the face of adversity, depite the dangers.
-
- Loyalty: Sticking with your friends and family or your ideas when they're challenged.
- Intelligence: Not only memorization, but understanding. Unfortunately it's not often displayed.
- Ambition: Knowing what you want and going for it. And if you're really strong/stubborn, working until you get it, no holds barred.
