THE MEDIA IS SO LAME

Mar 02, 2004 13:35

i fucking hate america's media policies. first of all tom and i were watching the maroon 5 music video, (which that song is a jam, and there is a scene in which the lead singer is making out with a girl and they proceed to remove their clothes. now two weeks ago mtv aired it uncensored and you cannot see breasts or dicks or anything, but now they ( Read more... )

you are predictable. you used to be one of those relgious fanatics. i haven't heard of people telling kids to go see it. its still a brutal movie its like tellnig a 4 year old to go see brave heart. weather your religious or not. no movie has depicted a more real version of crucifixion. i would suggest seeing the movie before passing judgement. but thats just me.

indeed. for someone who is supposedly openminded, putting such a label on something you haven't seen is pretty crappy to do. bad hippie, bad hippie.

i do intend on seeing it. and i acknowledge that i was one of those religious fanatics. but for a pastor to say that little children should watch that movie. it is rated r for a reason, to prevent little children from watching it. and i do not deny that that is what roman imperialism and punishment was like. in fact from the pictures that i have seen it looks acurate to the depictions of the bible and other descriptive writings from that time. it is not a question of saying that the movie is wrong or not it is the question of showing youth that movie. if you or any other person who has knowledge of what they are going to see is fine and i would encourage you to watch it if that is your choice but the fact of the matter is that pastors are telling little children to watch it. and that is wrong. and i regret all the indocterination of religious school that i was forced to go through. i was not taught to think objectively or scientifically and that is just what is going to happen through these children going to go see this movie. they ( ... )

I don't know of a single pastor that has encouraged children to see the movie. I don't know where you get this idea. I don't see how it's a fact of the matter when I haven't heard of a single case. it could happen, but I am positive that almost all pastors are placing emphasis on how violent the movie is and that children shouldn't see it.

also, I don't agree whatsoever with you about this sex on TV. when kids see sex on TV represented like it is on TV they emulate it, and what happens when kids have sex at an earlier age or more frequently as a teenager?? they have a much greater risk of getting pregnant or contracting a sexually transmitted disease. I dont feel it's taboo, but I feel television shows should take a little more caution in what they are putting on the tube. sex is a good thing, but not when it happens too often or at an age when the people involved aren't ready for it.

wait, what about The OC.. I haven't seen the maroon 5 video, but I have seen the OC, and it is all about sex, in one recent episode they had a highschool senior wanting this 40 year old woman. Is that okay? On Janet's behalf, I know that she knew what she was doing was wrong, but she appologized for her actions, so I feel that she shouldn't be penalized for things in the past.

I wish I saw the maroon 5 video, but I dont watch television, no time.

I had the same discussion with someone the other day about The Passion of Christ. I totally agree with you.

Eileen agrees with you thus negating any valid points you might have had.

I don’t think anyone is out telling 8 year old kids to see the movie. I’m fairly certain that if any pastor is saying that the younger set should see the movie, he is referring to kids that are a bit older. Probably middle-school and up.

MTV is stupid. They are probably just censoring the Maroon 5 video because Maroon 5 is an awful excuse for a band.

If you want to talk about the Janet Jackson thing, we can talk for days. The fact that it was such a big deal is pathetic. Anyone who has seen the MTV Music Awards in the past 5 years has seen far worse on Little Kim yet no one ever made a big deal out of that. It wasn’t even like it was Janet Jackson’s bare breast. She had something on over it.

Also, the movie isn’t using scare tactics. Everything that is in that movie is there for accuracy, not to frighten little children.

as far as The Passion goes, i think you are totally wrong in saying that pastors who advocate children going to see this movie are trying to scare children into believing in God. The movie is an accurate depiction of the life of Jesus Christ, according to the Bible. the job of a pastor of a Christian church is to educate his/her congregation on God and Jesus and the teachings presented in the Bible. part of the Christian religion is to spread the word of it. this doesn't mean to force the belief system that goes along with it onto other people, but to make them aware. that is what free will is for. you have to be informedon something before you can choose to believe it is true or not. and i think that is the goal of advocates of this movie. they are just doing their job. and i seriously doubt they want five year old children to see the movie, but instead children who believe, along with their parents, that they are ready to experience such a thing, kind of like how you were able to take communion before the average child at st. paul's ( ... )

"the reasons beind her not being allowed to go is strictly sexist, because she is a woman and came up with the idea on her own."

You can't show tits on TV. End of story. It's not allowed. Timberlake didn't whip his dick out, so he can go.

And as for the "Passion of Christ", it can't be that violent. It's rated R. Try NC-17 and see how long it takes for you to vomit. I highly recommend a foreign flick called Guinea Pig, and the sequal too. Great film.

Note: I said the film is the most violent I have ever seen. It will probably be the most violent you have ever seen. This is not a criticism but an observation; the film is unsuitable for younger viewers, but works powerfully for those who can endure it. The MPAA's R rating is definitive proof that the organization either will never give the NC-17 rating for violence alone, or was intimidated by the subject matter. If it had been anyone other than Jesus up on that cross, I have a feeling that NC-17 would have been automatic.
