But I have to question your notion that the economy is "suffering." At this moment the US economy is booming. Things haven't been this good at any time in recent memory and the jobless rate is lower than it has been in decades--under 5% which is considered by economists (and politicians) to be FULL employment. Yeah, gas prices are high--but that's largely a temporary deal while the Iran thing gets sorted out. Anyway, people like Al Gore have always contended that charging astronomically high prices for gas is GOOD because it encourages conservation....
A bit of advice....if you don't like high gas prices, don't go to Italy--the price there is double what it is here....roughly the Euro equivalent/litre conversion of $6 a gallon.
full employment??? actually half of the country is working at wal marts and targets. Last I heard making $7 an hour isn't enough to pay for gas when it's over $3 a gallon. People are working half the time just to pay for their gas...it's a shame.
AND Em should know what a Euro is equal to considering she spent a whole summer in Italy.
Nonetheless it's always good to hear one of my peers is actually in the "know" with the economy.
