Well. It would seem that one of the downsides of my other space is that family knows about. Don't get me wrong, it's actually completely glorious to have my anonymous little space be totally in the awareness of some of the fam - the focus is pretty family friendly, but as always there seems to be a bit of censorship that happens

Got married about a year ago. So, that's a year of marriage...but we've got six years under out belt of sexy-time friendship so it's not like it was a sudden thing. Neither of us expected our relationship to end up here, but it just kept falling into place and working really well, so here we are.
I had always reserved the right to decide that I did want children, and then...well, I just did. So, hello adventure.
Only renting for us, at the moment. We wanted to buy the place where we are now, but evil bastard doctor man bought it out from under us (compete with a doctor's cash offer? Ha! Oh well.) But...I love gardens dearly, so houses work better than apartments for the time being. If one or both of us goes back to school we'll need to reduce our housing costs, of course. Or ramp up the income!
I was training in daoist martial arts. I took a year-long break and recently went back, and oh man. Never take a year off training. yikes.

Glad to hear you and yours are doing well :) BTW, you were calling him "The Gent" here, as I recall.
Also - check again with the insurance company. Usually there are "special circumstances" that allow for midstream insurance changes.

Also, hi lovely, how are you? How's life treating you these days?
Within 30 days of marriage, during the usual term change period (as long as I'm not pregnant at the time) and upon adding my spouse as a dependent on my insurance. We considered the latter but that would take the cost up to astronomical and it's going to be high enough as is. Insurance is such an expensive racket!

I moved to be near my partner, and am working on finishing my undergrad. I got an internship at a Big National Laboratory as a copyediting intern.
The past month of my life has been chewed up and spit out with the stress of my grandmother (mother's mother) and her very, very rapid decline. She's in in-home hospice care, and is in week...2 or 3?...of "it's just a matter of days..." I went to visit her right as she went home from the hospital, and she was still doing okay at that point. And this all started with the new semester, so I'm a little rough around the edges right now.
I concur. Insurance is an expensive racket! Sometimes, I think you're better off stashing the money otherwise spent on insurance, and paying for things out-of-pocket. :/

What a blessing that your grandmother is able to be at home for this transition. I'm glad that you've gotten to spend some time with her over the past few years. Still, it's hard to witness at times, and the waiting is...well, it's waiting. There has been a lot of medical intervention with my grandfather recently, and honestly, I believe that he should have passed already, but the family isn't letting go. There's never a good time, really. Condolences to your family.
As for insurance - yes, that is totally true, right up until the really big stuff, like hospital trips and babies. (30,000 minimum in expenses vs 2,500 in insurance is a big difference!) Still, our medical system is broken in some very big ways beyond insurance - but luckilyy in this state midwives have hospital privileges so I can have a super crunchy granola birth in a medical setting, which is definitely an awesome thing.
