Kangin was scared. Not of the mundane everyday fears that made people scream and run away or huddle trembling in a petrified little ball. No, Kangin wasn’t scared of spiders or heights or ghosts, foes he could always squish or beat to a pulp, or at least the person responsible for them.
It was something much scarier that made Kangin sweat. Change. Such a simple word. So small and insignificant but immeasurably immense in implication. He understood that change was important, for the world to move forward, for society to advance and grow and improve upon itself. But why did it have to happen to him.
It hadn't always been so frightening, back in the early days when Kangin did all he could to get their group recognised, so Super Junior could reach the top, and it had meant the world to him when they had, it still did. But popularity came with a price, and an expiry date.
Everyone was so in demand now, offers for jobs acting, tv appearances and mc-ing assaulting them left right and centre. Not to mention the subgroups.
They were drifting slowly apart, and taking pieces of Kangin with them. How long before the absence wasn't temporary anymore, before they went their separate ways and it was over for good.
He would sit alone in his room at night and try to imagine a life without Super Junior, a pretty wife and cute children, proper family happiness. But he'd always feel the hole in life that only a combination of snarky, dorky, adorable, talented boys could fit.
It was childish, moving on was part of growing up, of getting older and he was getting ahead of himself, it wouldn't be happening anytime soon, and he'd cling to that thought for all it was worth.
But all alone in the dark with just his own thoughts bouncing around his head to distract him, Kangin would see the black hole of numbing depression descend on him shattering the optimistic visage he showed to the world.
