AFF account. This is based off EXO-M's Sina interview, and is set around the time when EXO-K left EXO-M in China after their showcase.
Lay sat down on Luhan's bed, eyeing him with mild amusement. His face was pressed into the pillow and in his right arm he was clutching the teddy bear that had taken refuge in his bed since they were trainees. Luhan loved that bear, but Lay was never really sure why. It never left his bed, and Lay hadn't asked about it. Maybe he would one day.
Luhan was perfectly quiet, and almost seemed asleep, but Lay knew better.
"Luhan?" He asked, nudging his back. Luhan didn't respond to him, and he found it odd. He did it again, but this time the smaller's body retreated slightly from the contact.
"Go away," he heard, muffled into the pillow. He frowned.
It took him a few seconds before he understood it. It had been days now, and he should have realized sooner. He had a slight inclination that Luhan might be crying into the pillow. He wan't sure he wanted to find out if it was true or not. It would break his heart if it was.
"I said go away."
Luhan had been like that ever since Sehun left. A little off, and more than a little sad. It wasn't healthy for him. His relationship with Sehun in general wasn't healthy, because it made him deteriorate. For some reason, he couldn't let go.
There, in China, he hadn't been himself ever since Sehun and the rest of EXO-K had left to return to Korea. Lay still remembered the day of departure, remembered the check in terminal at the airport. He was pretty sure all of EXO remembered. It wasn't exactly a happy day.
They'd been glued together since morning, never leaving each other’s side. It was like the whole day was spent dreading what was to come, and every member felt it. No one wanted to be there when Sehun and Luhan had to be separated.
Luhan had cried, and Sehun had been holding on to him and refusing to let go like it was nobody's business. When people had told him he needed to go through security, pick up his bags, and leave the terminal, he'd given them looks that Lay was sure could kill inadvertedly.
Eventually, after a lot of protest and arguing, Luhan had been pried out of Sehun's arms, the younger looking back at him sadly and saying "You'll be okay," before picking up his bags and being dragged through security by their manager.
It had been uncomfortable when Sehun had disappeared from sight, because Luhan fell to his knees on the floor, and seemed like he might die of sorrow. They'd all wanted to step up and comfort him, but they knew it wouldn't do much good, and the only thing that could mend it was if Sehun came back through those doors again.
Suddenly Lay felt a kick in his side, and he was snapped back to the present. Luhan tried to kick him off the bed again, but Lay caught his leg this time.
"Luhan, you'll see him again," Lay consoled, not sure if that was stepping over the line or not. Should he be talking about him?
It seemed to strike Luhan, though, as he retreated his leg and held his breath.
"No I won't," he said sadly, and turned around to his side on the bed so his arm was still clutching the teddy bear and his back facing Lay.
Lay sighed and left the room, knowing some things were just out of his control.
When EXO-K had returned to China for full group promotions, nothing had been more powerful than the reunion of their own two star-crossed lovers.
Their arrival had been unannounced, and so when they turned up at their temporary dorm carrying luggages, everyone had been surprised.
"We're back!" Chanyeol said, smiling at everyone and walking first through the door.
Lay stood up to greet everyone, handshaking and hugging, but he was pushed aside when he got to Sehun, who seemed in a hurry, and had left his bags in the corridor.
Sehun had rushed past him, saying hi to no one, and headed straight for the door at the far end of the hall, the room in which Luhan was still lying in bed, too depressed to leave.
The members all went silent, and from his position he could see Sehun's back in the door opening, and Luhan flinging himself into his arms. Luhan was crying again.
He'd heard them that night, even seen them. He shared a room with them, along with Chen, but Chen was a deep sleeper, and Lay just had a keen eye.
He heard their hushed whispers first, and then a few moans. He turned around on his bed and saw in the dark what he could make out to be Sehun on top of Luhan, kissing him deeply and running hands along his body. He could see their need to be close, the longing, the tears, all of it at once, and couldn't tear his eyes away when Sehun pushed into Luhan and said his name over and over as if it were all his vocabulary was composed of. He couldn't look away from the way Luhan scratched at Sehun's back, wanting them to be closer, much closer than humanly possible.
He found out later that Luhan's teddy bear had been given to him from Sehun, and he watched Luhan clutch it whenever Sehun wasn't there, and cast it aside for the real thing when he returned.
It was a beautiful thing, what they had. Though Lay couldn't quite understand it, he knew they would never be able to quit each other.
