I think this is a great idea. Would you prefer the kids and guns without the education? Since the kids have expressed interest, it seems smart to educate them, since they want to do it anyway. Let them do it intelligently. I understand that you object to it as a way to have fun in nature, but really, where do you think the meat you eat comes from? For them the way of life enables them to rely more closely on themselves, as opposed to getting their meat from some factory. Whether you like it or not, hunting does bring people closer to nature, it makes them more aware of what exactly happens to bring a meal to the table.
This is more sustainable and it's educating people. It just so happens that it will also stimulate the economy.

It brings a whole new meaning to "school shooting."

I don't understand what's wrong with this. It's hunting. Tons of people hunt. If kids want to learn how to hunt they should be able to take a class that teaches them how to hunt the right way. IDG what's so wrong with that.

I have to agree with Laura on this. Learning to respect guns is a major part of responsible gun ownership and use. They'll probably hunt anyway, own guns anyway, need to use a gun someday. Teaching them now what devastation and pain a gun can cause in addition to the typically over-glorified fun of hunting is going to shape the kids into much more reliable and responsible gun owners in the future.

Granted, I'm not a fan of the NRA and anti-gun control lobbyists, who are probably backing this, but the legislation itself isn't so horrible.
