I witness the act of clumsiness with a sympathetic and almost pitiful look on my face, as though I really feel bad for the man. It's only a flash before I'm back to feeling more than humiliated at myself again, waving back and waxing the board until it shines. "Just in time," I greet, nonchalantly. "Any more time and I might have been swallowed in my own pit of humiliation."

"You're not the one who almost just fell on his face like a clumsy teenager," Mathias points out ruefully, dropping the board to the sand just a moment before he sits down in the sand as well. Of course, he isn't that embarrassed by such an act, not when Webster has seen worse. "Why are you humiliated?"

My hand slides up the board and I lose myself in the repetition of a task well-loved before glancing over to Mathias. "Our Lieutenant," I explain, switching to a more secretive form of language in the event of eavesdropping. "Caught me and my boyfriend in the midst of an intimate moment. Suffice to say, I felt like I wanted to die. Still do."

Mathias's eyebrows shoot up at that, looking over at Webster curiously. He has no problem with the fact that Webster has a boyfriend and only finds it faintly amusing that their Lieutenant has caught them.

Of course, now he's thinking of what it would be like for Veronica's father to catch the two of them together and his faint smile disappears.

"What did he say?" he asks, leaning back on his elbows. "What he weird about it?"
