Henry was pretty damn glad to have the psych department on the island. It's through that, having patients, that he gets a sense of normalcy, which is nice to have even if he is a little used to dealing in the unusual and unbelievable. He's got patients, and while it isn't even close to approaching the number of patients he had in his private practice back home, it's good. And he's good at it.
He sat back in his chair, relaxed, still wishing on some vague level for his familiar wingback and his office with the van Gogh. "It's definitely not uncommon," he said, giving Mathias a friendly smile. "How it works is simple: you talk, I listen, and I help you work through whatever it is you're here to deal with."
"You know, that's actually sort of difficult for someone who prefers not to be the one who's talking all the time," Mathias points out with a small smile, leaning forward, his elbows on his knees. He knows that this is what he's supposed to do and that's the point, that's why he's here, after all, but that doesn't make it easy.
"Did you... hear about the vines?" he asks reluctantly. It's why he's here, after all.
"I heard a little." Through the grapevine, he almost said, but that would have been crass. Henry tended to save his sarcastic sense of humor for non-professional situations. "Just something about bodies with vines wrapped around them. Do you have some sort of connection to that?"
"My brother was the first," he says, spitting it out in a rush. It still hurts to even acknowledge that Henrich is gone and it hurts more to admit that he'd found his brother's body not once, but twice.
"Stacy's best friend Amy was the second," he adds a moment later. "We were all together in Mexico when Henrich and Amy died. When we all died, I think."
