He's still asleep when he hears it. It's a soft sort of noise, not quite like crying and in the midst of waking up, he wonders if it's a bird. Maybe there's a bird outside that's been hurt and it's sitting in the sand, calling quietly for someone to help it. She's still half asleep when she stumbles the short distance to his room, leaning heavily in his doorway, rubbing sleep from her eyes. Her cheeks are damp, eyes gummy and sticking shut. She does't have these dreams very often, but when she does, they are always, always so real.

"Hi," she murmurs, smiling sheepishly, shifting restlessly on her bare feet.

"Hi," Mathias echoes, still sitting up in his bed, sheets pooled around his waist as he rubs his eyes again. "Is everything okay?"

He suspects it's not. They've been in the hut long enough that he's adjusted to sleeping in his own bed, but there's still a sort of comfort in having Stacy right next door to him. There's a comfort in knowing she still wanders into his room now and then.

"Something woke me up," she murmurs. He has just as much reason as she does not to be able to sleep, but for some reason she's embarrassed to admit that it's because of nightmares. He knows. She knows that he does, but it's something better left unspoken.

Mathias nods, because something woke him up, too, but he doesn't know if either of them really want to talk about it. The words, in the end, seem far less important than what they feel and since he doesn't know how to talk about what they went through, he says nothing.

"Want to come here?" he asks, leaning back against his pillow again.
