With the dogs racing around the yard, Mathias steps back from the work he's completed on his hut and dusts his hands off on his jeans. Even if Veronica decides that moving in is not in the cards just yet -- although he thinks she will decide to do it -- he's glad that he's built the extension. "Someone else getting all your secrets?" Veronica asks, teasing, her hands swinging in front of her as she approaches. The house looks good, she realizes. The extra space added on fits it, is sturdy, livable. "I'm doomed," Veronica says, all mock-exasperation, then slips her arms around her neck, unable to maintain even that sliver of a pretense. "You couldn't learn a language I know?" There's English, of course, and she's not fluent in any others, only having dabbled in French and Spanish. It's something she knows she ought to correct now she has all the extra time, but somehow that time doesn't stretch as far as she feels it should.

He pauses and adds, "I could teach Sam, too." At first he'd been joking, but now that he's thinking about it, it might be good for Sam to know German as well.
