[Neil & Danny - Second island]

The small pack on his back has water, food and sunscreen, enough of the first two to sustain him for a full week if necessary. It won't be, Mathias knows this, but even with all the work he's done on going into the jungle, he can't completely shake the fear that something terrible will happen. Something will keep him there, even if Neil and Danny ( Read more... )

It's not that I don't know what I'm doin' here, but I can't help feelin' out of place. I can't help that small part of me that feels like it's done wrong. I've run out on Tom so many fuckin' times, a handful of hours here and there, nights with no word, I'm not sure I oughta be leavin' him with the girls yet again. But it's just a day trip, and I can't deny needin' a break. I can't deny that Veronica Mars is gone, one of the first people I met on this fuckin' rock, and it feels like maybe I oughta be here, with Mathias, while he gets his head back on straight.

"You two wanna cozy up in one, I don't wanna get between you," I smirk, shifting the weight of my backpack and squinting out over the ocean toward the other island.

Danny snorts at that, giving Mathias a bemused smirk. "Hey, he wants to do the work on his own, I'm not gonna risk the pulled muscle," he says, though he's in decent shape. Steve won't let him be lazy, which is just one more reason why Danny should have kicked harder when he got forcibly moved in.

He's got a Steve-packed backpack, so he's sure he'll find grenades and a copy of Sexy Eyes in there. God help him, it really probably does have a weapon and a sandwich with a note, too. "C'mon, let's get the physical activity part of this done with."

Mathias smiles at Neil's comment, though it doesn't last long before it disappears. He appreciates them both having come out here with him, knowing he's taking them away from their lives, that he's taking Neil away from Tom and the twins. A part of him thinks he should have gone alone rather than disrupting their lives, but he doesn't know if he would be able to do that. So they're here with him, and he appreciates it. It makes it easier to forget that he shouldn't be leaving Sam just yet.

"That sounds fine," he says, starting toward the canoes and shifting his pack, sliding it off his back and into the bottom of the boat. "I can push you both off, if you want." He doesn't mind getting wet, he never has.

I'm gonna regret this. It's a long fucking way out to that goddamn island and I'm no champion fuckin' rower, but... whatever.

Tossing my pack into one of the canoes and climbing aboard. "Wasn't there a boat with a goddamn motor we could've used?"
