The pedlar, it seems to me, used what other people were drawn to ... like Legolas being drawn to the sea, or Eowyn being drawn to the blue skies of Rohan, and the great hall of Edoras ... in order to prey on them and take their spirits captive.
I loved the connection between Eoywn and Legolas, how she could sense what he wanted and needed, and how he could communicate to her to be careful not to fall under the pedlar's spell.
I liked, too, how Legolas and the others swore death before captivity.
The pedlar was drinking down the essence of those he'd taken captive, wasn't he?
The banners are a wonderful touch to the story, adding to it. You always take such time with your fics, not only with what you write, but research and illustrations as well.

Yes! And he just happened to choose that of the elf in the Healing Room, which is why the poor elf died.
