Okay.
Breathe.
...
Just take a deep breath.
...
It's not the end of the world.
I think...
...
My mom just friended me via facebook. I almost hate my dad for letting her on the interwebs.
Okay. I can't panic. But maybe this is a sign that Facebook is going to be dead to me very very soon. Even if i sorta kinda liked it. (lies- i hated it. v. little freedom to express myself, but still a just growed-up version of MySpace. I only joined b/c it was easy to maintain. Also not so much drama.) But even so it was an easy way to find something to do on a slow night or to waste time at work.
When it was just my dad on Facebook I kept away a bit. It was kinda creepy to pass beers or play vampire with him there b/c you never knew if he was watching. So I kept my Facebook page tame. But now I visit it once a month at best and even then only because I need something from it.
But now with my mom lurking too, I'm thinking about taking down my twitter feed from it and slowly kill it. Not enough to raise suspisions but enough that by the end of the year my account with them will be turned off.
In the mean time I think I'll step up my tweets. I've not tweeted in a while and it's an easy way to blog without blogging like this. 150 charaters and a way to distract myself at lunch. If you're not following me but want to i'm plsteward there, too. I think I'll update the look, fix my profile, and tweet some tonight. Twitter is something that s being dismissed as trivial by the traditionalists online, but has power. Because it's just the size of a text and a lot of us have cell plans with free texting we can comunicate to a greater number faster and have kind of a collective experience.
If you've seen TechCrunch in the past few days you saw the Iron Man thing- and you saw Twitter at work. It also is something that spammers are learning but something that the serrious advertisers can't seem to understand. I'm not sure where it will lead but it is kind of cool.
What does it mean when you can share life with someone across the globe and the person sitting next to you in one line of text?
Where do our lines of connection begin and end?
Are we being voyers?
Exhibitionists?
Or are we trying to ease the fears of being annoyemus and alone in an age when we were redused to a number or two in schools, by our governments, and by all those who determine if we exist legally?
Do we broadcast our lives?
Do we start to act like something other than ourselves to put on a show?
Or are we already doing that?
All in all I think as a greater community we are becoming something more than just a post-modern community. I think it might be greater than just that tag. Because what is post-modernism really, but a term for neo-philosophers to use to try to describe a world where thinking in a straight line doesn't work. We no longer live in a world where we are small players ruled by job-boss-government-god(s). We control so much now that our ecconomic system can't fit it. We also live in a world where the major players are so large that they seem giants but also they seem to still exist in the modernist mindset.
Dude... I need to stop. I'm thinking too much to write.
Umm, that, the stuff I just wrote probably doesn't make sense.
Oh well.
I need to work on my last Painted Spires.
