[Every now and then, Peter would see someone come power-walking up the street. They always had the same range of expressions: utter bewilderment, followed by a bit of spinning in circles trying to get bearings; sheer terror, sometimes accompanied by teary-eyes; and single-minded purposefulness. These last people come marching out, determined to set things straight and clear on out of here. The short-haired woman he sees now falls into the last camp. But one by one, though, all faces fall into one expression: dismay.]

[muttered] She is really hustling over there! She's smarter than some I've seen though... already trying to get a layout of Mayfield. [He watches from the front of a nearby comic shop.]

[pluckyreporter]

[Damn skippy she was. Stopping at corners, taking in the place, noting stores, signs, landmarks, Roxanne would pause to sit on benches and go over the notes, scribbling things next to the rough map she was beginning. She'd never get the whole place in a day -- but she was going to get as much, day by day, as she could.]

[Pete waits what he believes to be a respectful amount of time before hesitantly making his way over to the woman. He clears his throat.]

Pardon me Miss, but I seem to have misplaced my blank-eyed expression. Have you seen it anywhere? It's probably about yay-high, completely inappropriate given the circumstances?

[pluckyreporter]

...that's not nearly as reassuring a greeting as you think it is.

[Roxanne is giving Peter the look; he's a little younger then her, it seems, but apparently he's not One Of Them.]

[Sarah Jane recognizes that behaviour. So obviously she has to approach. Today she has raided her newly droned husband's side of the closet. The men's clothing doesn't fit her well, but it does offer certain options the dresses here don't]

[Roxanne gives a sharp look at-- someone who is clearly not a drone. In men's clothing, no less. She relaxes, fractionally, and replies]

I'm-- not really sure yet. I woke up today in a strange house with strange people, and now -- well, best to get the lay of the land, right?

Megamind finishes his work day just like all the other normal citizens of Mayfield and is walking to his car when, what's this? He's coming up behind someone whose behavior is very un-drone-like. Oh, perhaps it's his turn to give this lady the "so-you're-new-here" speech.

Then as he gets closer recognition makes him stop dead in the middle of the sidewalk. That haircut. That frame. It can't be.]

... Roxanne?

[The very millisecond it's out of his mouth he regrets it. He could have just run away and avoided the awkwardness. But now he's stuck to face whatever Roxanne might decide to throw at him. Oh! But maybe she won't recognize him. Maybe...? Oh god please?]

[pluckyreporter]

[...but she's going to need the bank you dummy.]

[And you ARE a dummy because you've just said her name; she startles abruptly, turning around and holding her notepad up like she might protect herself with it. Only then does she realize that some goatee'd dude with a proto-pompadour is giving her a look of recognition]

...excuse me?

[Just the opportunity he'd been hoping for! She doesn't recognize him. Yet. His stance is suddenly that of a person who looks like they might turn around and bolt for their life.]

No! Haha! Nono, nothing, I thought you were someone else. Haveanicedaybye! [And with that he turns around and begins speed-walking away as quickly as he dares, trying not to look suspicious.]

[pluckyreporter]

[That stance. That voice. Those eyes. The face is -- almost right, under a much smaller head, but the recognition finally hits her.]

Megamind!

[She reaches out to snatch at her likely captor, who apparently wasn't prepared for her to leave that creepy house! She'll show HIM!]

INSIDE THE HOUSE

[There's a surprise waiting for her, whenever she gets out of the room! In the form of a large, black, feathery lump on the banister. A lump with a head, now that Utsuho's awake. She croaks rather curiously at the door once she fails to recognize the sound.]

[...holy crap who let a bird in the house. Roxanne has no idea what to make of that... big black thing on the bannister.]

[Who let YOU in the house, strange lady? Okuu's head draws back as far as her neck will allow.]
