I am massively fucked off because I'm writing my CV and haven't the faintest fucking clue what to put in the 'Hobbies and Interests' section. I read. I blog. I do this while listening to music. Occasionally when I'm not paralysed by crippling anxiety attacks I go outside and drink tea in cafes. I have no other interests ( Read more... )

The great thing about CVs is turning fannish things and making them seem normal. I had to update my CV in January when I applied for an internal promotion (didn't get it, but meh), so here's what I've currently got on my CV under 'interests':

Following my degree in English Literature, I have kept a keen interest in reading and, in my spare time, I also turn my hand to a little creative writing. Music is also a hobby and I have previously played clarinet as a part of several ensembles and sung in choirs. This has given me the opportunity to perform in venues from Exeter Cathedral to the Wales Millennium Centre.

I also keep close ties with a society at my former university’s Students’ Union, assisting mostly in an advisory capacity, but also helping with the organisation of social events when necessary. This involvement has helped further my interests in web design, though I am wholly self-taught in this area.

I don't know whether this helps at all.

...Oddly enough my first thought on 'what to put inn my hobbies and interests section' was "!CopyPaste my lj profile!"

You are awesome and that really did help, thankyou so much.

Hah, I know what you mean. I went to a career's advice thing that tried to help me with my CV and they were all "Well, do you have any interests like... running, swimming, exercise? Do you go out and do active things?" and it was like "uhhh no", so in the end I was like "I like Japanese things?" "If we put that they might think you spoke Japanese." "Oh. I like live comedy? Shall we put that down?" "... Better put 'theatre'." "But I don't like theatre. I like live comedy." "It sounds better."

Sigh~

~Le sigh also.

It is making a hole in my wall all of this working stuff, as I am banging my head against it almost constantly now. I panic way too much about something that I know most employers will dismiss as 'Meh, irrelavent to our cause.', but I want it to sound right and actually be as close as possible to accurate without sounding like bullshit.

I happen to like theatre as well as the ive comedy, so I slipped the ive comedy in under the radar while expanding on theatre and why they should care that I can work a lighting desk...

Oh, I is mentioning my writing, no worries. You are not useless, you are very helpful indeed. If it were not for you we would not have pillows taped to the wall! x

Lol! Now, should I use my "taping cushions to walls 150 miles away with only the power of my mind" powers for good or evil? :D

Emily doesn't understand how you could possibly use such powers for evil... I think you should confuse and befuddle people by taping all of their cushions to the walls so that when they come home they will be mildly freaked. Mwahahaha...

You enjoy reading both fiction and non-fiction and/or a wide variety of authors and styles.
You enjoy going to the theatre and the cinema to discover other cultures and periods of history.
You have been actively involved in local theatre, having done... blah blah blah.
You enjoy socialising with you friends

Umm.... all I can think of for the moment.

Thanks, I added most of those... Actually, I added all of those, but phrased slightly differently.

...And now I'm off to make toast as a break from making GIMP icons...
