That's my face palm icon. Although quite honestly, it was going to be put to use whether Federer won today or not.
Unfortunately he won.
The third set was painful. Seeing Andy Murray choke his words during his speech was painful. By the way, Murray tearing up was VASTLY different from Federer's blubbering last year. And here I bring the differences. Last year, Fed lost to Rafa in five sets. It was definitely a tough match for him to lose. BUT, the man came in to the tournament with 13 Slams in his pocket.
This year, Murray lost having made it to two slam finals and losing both to Federer. He had the hopes of the UK riding on him, had been playing brilliantly all tournament (I didn't watch any of it thanks to my lack of tennis-watching), beat Rafa on the way to the final, etc. etc. When he cried, I felt for him. Last year, when Federer cried, I wanted to slap him and tell him to man up. (Plus I felt like he totally stole Rafa's thunder, and no matter what any Fed fan says, yes, he was a big baby and stole Rafa's moment. And no, Andy tearing up was dignified and not in the least stealing Roger's moment because we all know Roger will somehow MAKE IT his moment.)
Yes. I am bitter. But I'm trying to not be a sore loser, especially because I have lots of Fed fan friends and family.
I don't get it. The man has 16 slams now and people STILL get excited? WHY? People say he plays brilliant tennis, which entertained me from Wimbledon 2003 to USO 2004 and that was about it. But after that, it was so robotic, so automatic, that I just got bored. And it seems like all the brilliant tennis surfaces in the finals (the only time I watch Federer matches) and if it isn't Rafa or Del Potro, Federer pwns everyone else. Whatever ATP tour. He's not invincible. He's just another player. Start deconstructing him and start beating him.
GOD I AM SO BITTER.
Anyway. I woke up early in the morning (or late at night) to watch this match. I was hoping for a corker but Murray, who had an AMAZING CHANCE to take it to a fourth set (and then maybe a fifth. Who knows?) messed up his chances. OH ANDY. He should have won that third set when he was up 5-3 and serving for the set. He even had set points in the tiebreak. It all was so eerily reminiscent of the Wimbledon final last year, when another Andy got so many of his chances stolen.
But I think what hurt me most was Ken Rosewall saying he was a fan of Federer's. Ken, take a page from Tony Roche and just understand that Roger is a smug, pompous airbag who used to be decent and now just isn't.
/bitter.
Good night all.
