Zaeed was lacking Canderous' "moral code." It's a slight difference. Like Canderous would've blown that refinery with some harebrained rationale about it being for the glory of the clans or because he felt that it would be more important for his people that Vido was no more and all the people trapped there would die gloriously as heroes. Zaeed just blows the refinery because he wants Vido dead and to hell with all those other people trapped there.

Yeah, Canderous at least has a moral code that he tries to stick to. I mean, it's a moral code that allows him to do some seriously questionable things (like kill planets of people,) but still. And as much as I love Canderous, it's awesome to have a douchebag that's just in it for the cash.

Also, Canderous is enough of a soldier and respects the chain of command enough not to go off on his own and pull the shit that Zaeed did in the first place. Zaeed doesn't wait for orders or follow Shepard's lead. Hell, he doesn't even warn Shepard he's going to do it - he just starts firing. Which is kind of hilarious and awesome and douchy of him, but also not something you'd want in someone who is supposed to be under your command.

I was so pissed when he did that, and if there'd been an option to just blow him away, I would have made Shepard do that (maybe there was and I missed it?). But I loved that he got that kind of reaction from me. I'm always amazed when I find out that people put that dude in charge of anything at the end of the

Yes. To all of it. Just yes.

I was surprised at how much I liked Miranda and how meh I was toward Jacob. I wanted so badly to like him. Garrus and Tali were even better than before. Mordin, Samara, Thane... yes, yes, and yes.

And so with you on Kaidan. I've seen so many people freaking out about his reaction, but I kinda love him even more for being all WTF? and not falling at Shepard's feet. Everything he said was totally justified in my mind.

That scene did annoy me, but it was because of Shepard's side of the conversation. She's just all, "Oh, uh... well, yeah. I can't really explain why I'm working with Cerberus in any sort of convincing manner because if I was as persuasive with you as I am in every other damn conversation in the game, then you would come with me and I couldn't tap the new guy/turian/drell." I get irked whenever plot forces someone out of character. It sets off my George Lucas alarm.

Some of the persuasive conversations set off alarms with me too. The paragon dialogue during Tali's trial was a big one. "Don't exile Tali because she's done good things for me!" apparently was enough for the quarians.

I bought the Kaidan conversation, but that's because I couldn't see any feasible way to talk him into it, because when you get down to the heart of it, "Cerberus rebuilt me and I owe them" works on Shepard, but not anyone else.

I'd be interested in seeing the reaction to Ashley, because, and I'm a little ashamed to admit it, I've never been able to not drop a nuke on her head for a single playthrough.

I agree with you about Shep's side of the Horizon conversation. I hated how there was no way to put emphasis on the fact that Shepard was freaking DEAD for two years, and that when she came around, Kaidan was on a secret mission somewhere. I made my Shepard try her best to get in touch with Kaidan when she came back to life, and I was disappointed (a tiny bit) that there was no way to express that on Horizon.

The email was adorable though :3

I don't know... that conversation still bugs me. I didn't expect for him to fall at her feet, of all people who should give Shepard a chance to explain and give her the benefit of the doubt - it's Kaidan.

See, now I wish I had Miranda in my party at end game.

I also wish there was an image of you and Mordin drinking out of beakers.

Also: Did you drink the "mystery drink" at the bar and then talk to the bartender in Illium? I laughed for a good five minutes straight over that nonsense. In my mind that bartender is Liara's father. Because I said so.

I think a bit of what happened to Liara is explained in the Mass Effect comic. I'm currently reading it, there's still one issue to be released, and it does fill in a couple of holes. Kinda sad that you have to spend 10$ on comics to know that though XP

I pretty much agree with everything you wrote, although I didn't mind not having an inventory or the new reloading thing you have to do ( ... )

Yeah, I'm a replay addict but just canNOT bring myself to romance Jacob because of the whole on-the-prowl vibe from Shepard. "Forthright" fits her personality quite well; "hi, let me smirk and lean seductively on tables while chatting up somebody I met a couple days ago while recovering from BEING DEAD", not so much. Agree with you about the voice acting; as good as Jennifer Hale is and as much as the voices overall knocked me on my ass, I am boggled at how clumsy that one part seemed.

And yeah, I would've loved to see some more Jack/femShepard stuff. I am a sucker for female-friendship stories and the amount you can find canonically is vanishingly small. And you can't go looking for it fic-wise without drowning in a sea of badly-written femmeslash...

Yeah, is it just me or do guys keep getting boned in the romance dept? I mean, in Dragon Age... well, I guess Dragon Age isn't a good example because they were all ridiculous ( ... )

Yeah the male!Sheps get the short end of the stick for both ME 1&2. I didn't like either Liara or Ashley (whom I never seem to be able to let survive Virmire). Miranda seems okay (but come on, she totally needs to hook up with Jacob instead), but kinda typical and boring. Jack seems so utterly fucked up, and I can't stand the magical unicorn healing sex fantasy that her romance seems to be.

Maybe it's karmic payback though for giving women Anomen as their only romance choice in BG2.

Tali's on the other hand seems pretty sweet and cute. I think I may have to suck it up and play a dude!Shep game just for that. That is, if I can figure out how to make a dude!Shep that doesn't look like an inbred hick. But first I have to try out Thane, I think. And one Shepard is going to have to stick with Kaidan, because even though I like Garrus better and I'm kinda pissed at his reaction on Horizon, I still have a soft spot for Mr. Alenko.
