at present, the true contemporary art, as far as i see it, is not recognized as such. but, really, it's the video games.

which video games? it's where a lot of great art is going these days, but I find it frustrating that most is wrapped up in first person shooters and other violent stuff.

As someone who enjoys horror movies, I guess that doesn't invalidate the art. But I don't think I'd appreciate horror movies either if it made up 90% of movies....

i am generalizing, talking it in terms of genre. our visit to the new museum brought additional frustration with the sort of crap that passes for art. i don't think many people think of video games as true art but, to be honest, they qualify more than what is displayed in the museums. their creators construct a world using their imagination and not a small amount of skill, a world that is meant to be interacted with directly and appreciated on many levels. they have clear purpose. the same logic can be applied to movies but these were around for a century so video games are it, i think. as for their content and violence... i guess it is a commentary on modern society or some such. i don't play any video games apart from bejeweled on my phone. so, you know, this is all theoretical for me. :)
