Maureen wasn’t sure how her parents had talked her into coming home for the holidays. She’d only just moved out of her place after breaking up with Mark. Maybe they thought she needed to be with family because of the split up, even if it was entirely her fault in the first place. Either way, it was just no fun being around them anymore. They treated her differently when they found out she was a mutant, and then when she told them she was bisexual.
But at least they provided a bed. And alcohol. She was thankful for that as she drained her drink and carefully avoided conversation with her parents. Oh right, this was another lovely Christmas lecture on why she should go back to school or do something useful with her life.
“I’m going to teach at that mutant school starting next week,” Maureen supplied finally, pursing her lips together. “Yoga. It’s a job, and it’s a place to stay,” she elaborated. And it wasn’t stooping low enough to work for the Man. She had the freedom to be who she was and not worry about sucking corporate America’s dick in the process. Of course, this explanation wouldn’t go over to well with her parents, so she just left it at that.
“Oh,” her mother began. “That’s lovely, dear.”
“I didn’t know they’d let you teach without proper education or schooling,” her father added.
Maureen rolled her eyes. “Calm down, it’s just Yoga. I’ve been doing it since middle school. Thought you’d be proud I was amounting to something and all.
