Yesterday, I actually saw a girl with a homemade "THANK YOU GOD" shirt with Obama logos in place of the Os.

I think of it as condensing "OMG Obama Won!" into a sweet little graphic, but you are right that it has a few risks in terms of interpretation. Kind of like the HOPE poster, with it's simple colors being mistakable for socialist propaganda of a past time. I'm trying to think of another example, but all I can come up with are those signs that say "Slow children crossing".

On the other hand, here's some fun news: Barack, Michelle, and the two kids have the secret services IDs of Renegade, Renaissance, Radiance, & Rosebud, respectively. How awesome are those names? Answer: totally awesome.
