Rec'd a late night call that they took the Mothership to Hays, KS via ambulance (2 hour trip) last night with an appt to see the Pulmonologist this morning. The nearest specialist is 2 hours away from our podunk hometown, but that is luckily two hours closer to KC, so now we're 4 hours from her should we get "the call."
Big Bro called with the news. Dr S told him that Mom's resting heart rate had become too consistently rapid over the past couple of weeks and that she can't take the trip to Hays any other way except by ambulance.
Dr. S also told Big Bro that we will not have her with us for longer than a year, and should prepare for that. I think we kids already knew that.
She still has her wits about her and is still mentally full of piss and vinegar, so I'm grateful for that (for once). All three of us agree we'd rather have her go quickly in her own home than slowly in the nursing home, but we'll see what the stars have in mind for her. This is not our call any longer as we're in the declining phase now.
However in speaking with her last weekend about whether she'd like to come live with me, she made me smile when she blurted out, "Oh No! We'd kill each other!" :) Well, at least we're both of the same opinion, but I'm glad she felt the love in my offer. She said her poor 'ole heart wouldn't be able to take the stress of us being annoyed with eachother 24/7- true dat Mother, tru dat! :) We do just fine over the phone, so we're going to keep it that way.
Mom rec'd her "Life Line" (I've fallen and I can't get up!) last week, so we're grateful for that since she refuses to go into Cedar Living Center yet. At least help is just a click away and that clicker is around her neck at all times- even in the bath.
We'll see what the pulmonogist has to say after today...
