I don’t see how Roberto Alomar could dislodge Rogers Hornsby from second base. Hornsby won the Triple Crown twice (1922, 1925) and was NL MVP in 1925 and 1929. He won 7 batting titles (AVG) and he did it with power (he led the NL in slugging 9 times

I agree that Rickey Henderson could make the team if I had a role for him to fill as “pinch runner.” However, I went with “best overall” in mind, rather than roles in mind (except for defensive positions). Willie Mays led the NL in stolen bases 4 times, so I could have him pinch run for Babe Ruth. Mays won 12 Gold Gloves, so he’s a good defensive replacement, too.
