If the Kingdom of Heaven is such a great place, why does the pope seem so reluctant to die? Perhaps he's been a Bad Pope who won't be ending up there after all.

He's made by the same workshop as Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. After eighty-ninety years they start needing lots of replacements, ten-twenty years later the insurance runs out, let 'em go.

Of course it could be that God doesn't want him up there, (well, would you, a supreme being want someone infallibale around?). Or just evil cardinals making the most out of it. Muahahahahaha!
