in vang vieng we stayed at a place right on the river. its restaurant kind of hung out over the river and was a perfect place to drink beer and watch the sun go down. i can't remember the name of it, but it was in the lonely planet guide.
shame you won't do the slow boat up the mekong... that was definitely a highlight, although every moment just about was a highlight in that country, despite the fact we were there in the wet season.
Yeah -- I wanted to do another boat ride, as I remember enjoying it the first time I was in Laos. But it seems my mum and sister weren't up for it. Really the reason I enjoyed it was just as a break from Thailand though, and because I don't mind discomfort. Basically I was sitting on a metal boat deck for 2 days. But it gave me a lovely chance to read. :-D
I'll try to find the restaurant you were at, since we'll be in Vang Vieng for a few days. Thanks for the tip!
ah well, if you've already done the slow boat, at least you know how wonderful it is. yes, the sitting on a plank of wood for 2 days was a tad uncomfortable and i was worried about my 7 year old (at the time) getting bored, but the time flew and she had fun chatting up everyone.
Well, I guess you four are all together now. Merry Christmas and stuff! I hope youhave a good time together. It's just me and Kcunac over here... Yep. All by ourselves. Just the two of us. Eating kibble. Going for walks. Pretty sweet.
