Whilst not known for their softness and subtlety, I really think the Germans nailed it upon creation of these three words, in a romantic manner the French could not surpass.

Erdbeere
Literal translation: "Earth berry"
English equivalent: "Strawberry"

Handschuh
Literal translation: "Hand shoe"
English equivalent: "Glove"

German is marvellous - and I've never heard a better language for singing. So often I find the incredibly useful English word I've been using isn't an English word at all, but a transliteration of a German word.
