10 great americans, 10 mediocre americans, the rest suck

It has recently come to my attention that a list of the 100 Greatest Americans has been put out, and that it will eventually be wheedled down to one all-time "Greatest American." I don't take issue with that, but the list itself (nominations by actual Americans) outrages me. Here it is ( Read more... )

Pirate Bluto and Animal House Bluto. Original flavor is lacking had bad taste (olive oil wasn't that great and had a terrible voice.)

Well, it's nice to see Tesla and the Wrights get some props, although I have no idea how you can put Dr. Phil, Oprah, and Lucas on the list.

Hey, interesting trivia, apparently Armstrong carried a piece of the 1903 Wright Flyer with him on the lunar lander. Might just be the national park service blowing smoke up me arse, but I'd like to believe it, hehe.

I have to nominate John Marshall and Richard Feynman, and recommend keeping the Wrights, Tesla, Sagan, and Franklin.

Edison, on the other hand, basically ran a sweatshop and stole everyone else's ideas (here's a nice little article: http://www.flyingmoose.org/truthfic/tesla.htm). On second thought, maybe he does embody the ideals of America ;D

Patrick Henry - Give me freedom or give me death.

The astute reader will correct me by saying "Wasn't Patrick Henry British?" To that I say "Yes, but he's at least as American as California's governer."

Thomas Paine - wrote Common Sense, a pamphlet instrumental in the American Revolution.

Way too many Roosevelts. How the hell are Dr. Phil and Oprah in the same league as Jefferson?

Hotels are booking up for the Corsha wedding weekend (also a big Irish festival and the Baseball Hall of Fame weekend). If you're coming and you don't have a room, try the Red Carpet Inn in Ilion. 315-895-7777. ASAP
