If it's the one I'm thinking of, it was directed by David Duchovny.

The director, I don't remember. He was doing a lot of episodes at the time, though, so probably. The episodes that Darin Morgan wrote...there were not many, if I remember correctly, but they were always good.

If I remember correctly, that episode is called "Humbug." That was one of the first episodes I ever saw. So awesome. :)

(DISCLAIMER: I wasn't exactly an X-Phile, so I can't go into much detail on things. I'll ask my friend at work, though, if I have to.)

My favourite one was from . . . one of the middle seasons, and I'm pretty sure it was written by Duchovny. It was the one where Mulder and Scully head out to a motel (magic-fingers bed and all) to investigate what appears to be a vampire-related fatality, and it is revealed to us that many creatures of the night are obsessive-compulsive. Pure gold.
