[advent 08] december seven

Dec 07, 2008 23:27

The story for December 7 got its own entry because it is A Fic In Its Own Right, unlike the rest of this crap.

(Hahaha, I am only half joking, oh my god, most of advent sucks.)

Here is some trivia about the story, for the zero people who will read this since it won't show up on your f-lists:

Each of the stories in the Iowa trilogy gets its title from a line in the song "Iowa." The first one is called "To Fall Just a Little Bit," and the lyric is this: How I long to fall just a little bit, to dance out of the lines and stray from the light. This is the story that deals with Sam coming to terms with the fact that he's not perfect and he's allowed to fail.

This one is, obviously, "The World of Safe People," and the lyric is: And we walk in the world of safe people, and at night we walk into our houses and burn. This is the story that deals with the duality of Will's life--trying to be the strong person that Sam sees and hiding his epic sense of failure.

The last one (that still hasn't been written) is "This Far Across the Tracks," and the lyric is: so for you, I came this far across the tracks, ten miles above the limit, and with no seatbelt, and I'd do it again This one is going to be about Josh and Donna coming to Iowa and Will realizing that Sam really does think of Iowa as home and wants to stay.

SEE, I PUT SOME THOUGHT INTO IT. Also, while I'm blabbering about this series, I am slowly but surely becoming a Will girl through and through. I mean, I still love Sam, but defending Will against haters has made me a little rabid, and Will's perspective is getting easier to write by far. Initially, the third, unwritten story was supposed to be from Sam's POV, but I ended up switching it to Will's because it worked better for me.

Anyway, that's enough of that, right?

When Will accepts the job in Iowa, he don't know who to tell. His family, of course, but he's not sure who else to bother. He's not even sure if these people are his friends, if they ever were, so he tells CJ when she asks, but doesn't go out of his way to tell anyone else. He resolves to tell only those who ask, and the list ends up amounting to Toby, who hears from CJ and calls to berate him, and Donna, who calls after he's already moved but before he switches his cell number to an Iowa exchange.

He actually feels guilty for not telling Donna...
