Dear Secret Mutant!
Dear Secret Mutant,
Hello! First off, thank you for signing up--I get a lot of joy out of this exchange and I hope it makes other people in fandom as happy as it makes me.
Secondly, I know writing/arting for the mod sucks, but I promise you the following: a) I totally won't even peek at your gift until the archive goes live. Cross my heart; b) I am really, really, really easy to please and to write or art for. With the exception of the squicks that I'll list below, don't feel limited by my prompts. If something you see on my journal inspires you, or the gift itself takes you away from my original suggestion, please run with it! The prompts are there as suggestions, not a mandate. Anything with any of my favorite tropes will make me happy, even if it's not entirely in line with what I put on my sign-up.
Likes:
I love family stories more than anything. I love team-as-family and the concept of found families. I love fluffy romance, as long as the characters stay true to themselves. I especially like established relationship, but first time and introductions are good too. I love kidfic, I like humor, I like plotty team fic, I like introspective gen fic. I love AUs and fusions, especially powered AUs and fusions. I like it when the ladies are being their awesome selves.
I'm also really into the socio-political worldbuilding that goes along with mutants, especially how those things inevitably would change in something like a modern, powered AU where mutants are more-or-less semi-accepted. (I REALLY LOVE modern, powered AUs.)
Some other favorite tropes: pretend boyfriends, size difference, AUs (I prefer powered AUs), domesticity, BFFs acting like BFFs, competency, teamfic, huddling for warmth, boarding school AUs, college AUs, mutant politics, and...about a gazillion other things. Feel free to browse my AO3 and LJ and latch on to any other of the millions of tropes I love. I kind of prefer, in AU scenarios, for Charles to be paraplegic, but it's really up to you and I've written and read lots of stuff where he's not, so no pressure :)
(I also like all of those things in art, obvs, though some are easier to capture than others! Also, if you feel inspired by any of the things I've written and want to illustrate a fic of mine, that is also 100% excellent and wonderful!)
Dislikes:
mpreg, Omegaverse, infidelity, non-con, the "misunderstanding" trope, character bashing, genderswap, animal and inanimate object AUs, character death, dark!fic. Angst is okay, as long as everything ends happily. Happy endings (or at least ambiguously okay, like "they can't be together because of the beach divorce, but they're still in love and steal weekends together") are kind of a must.
I generally like character-y things and fluff and people talking extensively about their feelings. I'm not a huge fan of porn. If you think an explicit sex scene would improve the story or is important for the plot/character development, I trust you and think you should go for it, but I'd prefer not to receive a story that's just entirely explicit sex, if it's at all possible :)
Characters/Pairings/Etc:
Charles/Erik is my OTP in a really creepy, cult-like, drinking-the-kool-aid way. I don't like seeing them with other people (although I don't mind references to past relationships or them being with other people before they get together AS LONG AS THEY DON'T CHEAT ON THEIR OTHER PARTNERS.). I possibly love older Charles and Erik even more than their younger counterparts. Other pairings I like: Alex/Armando, Moira/Nick Fury, Raven/Angel, Raven/Hank, Raven/Irene. The only pairing I really don't like at all is Hank/Alex, and I'm not a big fan of Moira/Sean in XMFC-verse, given I read Sean as a dumb sixteen year old boy and Moira as a badass competent lady in her mid/late-twenties. None of the new interactions in DoFP really pinged me as new pairings.
Charles is my absolute favorite (even though I recognize he's a sanctimonious prick) and Erik and Moira are close seconds. I love Raven and Armando, too, and that rounds out my top characters. I'm also a comics fan and my heart belongs to the original five (and Ororo), so fitting in Jean, Scott, and Bobby (and Warren, to a lesser degree) or Ororo would make my day. I loved Kitty in the movieverse, as little as there was for her to do, and would love to see more of her or some background on some of the new DoFP characters--Blink and Bishop in particular.
If you're an artist and none of my prompts are jiving with you from an art perspective, portraits of any of my faves (especially the old dudes or the ladies) or art that is related to/illustrates any of my fic would also be awesome ♥
In general, I'm sure whatever you do will be awesome and wonderful and amazing. Please feel free to use the prompts as a jumping off point to do whatever you'd like! If you absolutely need to ask someone if I'd like something, feel free to hit up pearl_o, whom I am volunteering for this without having asked her first. ~*Friendship!*~
edit 2015: OH MAN, so, this is just like, a random thing for anyone who might be reading this with the intent to write me a madness fic, but if you wanted to do a Hamilton crossover (ie: Ham characters as mutants, NOT the mostly-lily-white-X-characters as Ham characters), that would be....pretty keen. I'd be into it. Here are some relevant posts on Tumblr!
