This is the tenth one-shot in a self proclaimed challenge (which is to write a fic for each member. Using words off my desktop wallpaper, which is a pretty heart made out of words. 8D) I am now finished. Finally. ♥
Sighing tiredly, Yuto flopped onto his bed, long form stretching out over the bright comforter as he sank down onto the mattress. He wanted so much to nap, but right as his eyes began to close, he remembered something. Something he needed to do before he fell asleep because he was bound to forget if that happened.
Sitting up, Yuto scooted over to his bedside table and snagged a medium sized, brightly decorated shoe box.
The inside, though mostly filled with slips of multicolored paper, had all sort of odds and ends. There were ticket stubs, a small toy dinosaur, candy wrappers that had been carefully smoothed out, even a small piece of snakeskin.
Yuto reached into his pocket and carefully added a small rock to the collection before getting a piece of paper. He scrawled quickly, writing an explanation of the rock on it. On the way home, a little girl had run up to him, all giggles and awkward walking, exclaiming that it was a magic rock and she wanted him to have it. Yuto had accepted the rock with a thank you and a laugh, before waving the little girl goodbye as her parents scooped her up, smiling at him in gratitude for making the girl laugh.
Nap forgotten, Yuto slowly shuffled through the various items in the box as they brought back a flood of memories.
He'd made this box years ago, back when the original Hey!Say!7 was formed. Yamada, Chinen, Takaki, Arioka, and himself. He could still remember the way his heart had raced when he'd been told about the single.
He held up a red feather, waving it around in the air for a few moments.
“Uuuugh....” Chinen pouted down at his outfit. “I'm shedding!” There was a sigh and then a huffing noise and Yuto turned around to find Chinen bending over, trying to pick up the fallen feathers as he managed to shed even more.
“Ah, ah, ah~” Yuto stepped forward and carefully nudged him. “Stop that, you're making it worse.” He was attired less like a chicken and stooped to pick up the feathers. “Look, it's okay~” He smiled and petted Chinen's hair before asking. “Nervous?”
“Mmm....Kinda.” Chinen giggled softly. “We'll be okay as long as Yuuyan doesn't trip~”
Yuto laughed and then looked down at the dyed feathers he held. “What do I do with these...?”
“Yuto-kun should keep them~” Chinen chirped, laughing. “A keepsake, to remember Hey!Say!7 forever.”
“What?” Yuto laughed. “I'll just remember you molting.”
“Yuto-kun!”
He smiled and carefully placed the feather back down, rummaging around a little more before pulling out another piece of memory. It was a bookmark, the kind that changed pictures depending on the angle. This one was of a caterpillar transforming into a butterfly.
“Aargh!” Yuto threw the pencil across the room, glaring as it rolled on the floor after hitting the wall. “Stupid, stupid, stupid homework.” He muttered under his breath, ignoring the textbook on his lap in favor of glowering.
There was a shift on the couch and the boy who'd fallen asleep while reading popped his head up sleepily. “Yuto~?” It was Inoo Kei, one of his new bandmates. “You okay?”
Yuto rubbed his eyes and shook his head, smiling. “It's nothing...I just don't get what they want me to do...”
“Ah?” Inoo sat up and blinked himself awake before leaning over, eyes flicking over the words on the page. “Oh....I see...Want me to help you?”
Yuto looked over with relief. “Would you...? I just don't get it at all...That'd be great...if it's not too much trouble.”
Inoo smiled gently and nudged him. “Hey~ No problem! That's what bandmates are for.”
The next half hour was spent with Inoo explaining his homework to him and by the end of it, Yuto had decided that Inoo was better then any of the teachers he'd ever had before. “Thank you so much!”
Inoo stood, tucking the book he'd been reading under his shoulder. “Like I said, it's not a problem. If you need help, ask any time!” With that, the other boy bid him good night and left.
Yuto only noticed the fallen bookmark when he'd gathered up his own stuff. Texting Inoo about it, he got the reply of 'Don't worry, just keep it if you like. ♥'. Yuto went and did just that.
He went through more of the box, familiarizing himself with each item again, the smile on his lips simply growing wider with each remembered moment in time. The time he and Takaki had gone scavenger hunting, an outing with Hikaru at an amusement part, a guitar lesson from Keito...
Nakajima Yuto was a sentimental boy and so, as always, he saved the best for last.
Cradling it in his hands, gazing at it with soft affection, Yuto held the small piece of time.
Yuto hadn't seen him in so long, the sight of Yamada Ryousuke was almost saddening. He looked pale, tired, and thin. Unstyled hair fell around sleepy eyes and the small boy wasn't quite smiling. “Yuto...” Yamada curled up into Yuto's hug and Yuto just wanted to hold him forever.
Yamada pulled back eventually and reached up to poke his cheek. “Stop growing.” He whispered. “I can't keep up with you.”
“I'm trying to slow down for you.” Though, in his mind, it was Yuto who was always chasing after Yamada's trail.
Yamada flopped onto the couch and tugged Yuto down next to him. “God, you're going to get taller then Yabu soon enough.”
Laughing softly, Yuto stretched out next to Yamada, letting the other slip his arms around his waist as he rested his head on Yuto's shoulder. “You're tired.” He commented, nuzzling Yamada's hair for a moment.
Yamada looked up at him, pouting. “Yeah...but so are you.”
“Psh. I could go for hours.” Yuto laughed, though it partially felt fake and they both knew it. Yuto always denied being tired though, especially around Yamada. Yamada was always just so much more busy, he felt like he was mocking the other for saying he himself was tired...
Yamada had called him stupid on many different occasions over it and he did right now. “Dumbhead...”
“You know m--” Yuto's words were cut off by a pair of soft lips and Yuto stared, completely taken aback as Yamada kissed him for a few moments before leaning back, blushing.
“...Yama-chan?”
Yamada mumbled and then glanced up at him. “IlikeyoualotYuto.” The boy was so nervous, it was endearing. Yamada didn't often show his inner feelings and right then, they spilled out of him. It wasn't Starboy Yamada, it was cute and awkward Ryousuke.
“Yamada, we have to run through it again.” Chinen yelled from a different room and Yamada scrambled off the couch, flushing red. Yuto couldn't even get the words out of his mouth before Yamada hesitantly tugged off the necklace he was wearing. It was a simple chain with a charm of a shooting star. He shoved it into Yuto's hands and then dashed away, not waiting for an answer.
Yuto stared down at the charm, warm in his hand, warmed from the beating of Yamada's heart.
He liked to think that it was because of love for him.
Yuto held the charm, now cool to the touch, but it was something he treasured. Not so much the necklace, but what it meant, which was almost everything to Yuto. He was too afraid to lose it, so he kept it in his box memories.
His phone buzzed, alerting him of a text message and he carefully placed everything back into the box before picking his phone up. He smiled, realizing who the text was from and quickly read it.
Waaaah (ToT) I won't be able to come over for dinner, Yutooooo. I'm sosososososo sorry! Waah, I can still sleep over though! Is that okay? Love you. ♥ Ryo-chan
Yuto laughed and quickly replied. Yes, the love of his life was busy...but he didn't care.
The words 'I love you' from Yamada Ryousuke.
He cherished that above all else.
