“Hiro..?” Fujigaya Taisuke trailed after his boyfriend, tugging insistingly on his arm, trying to get a response. “Hiro, are you okay?” He asked, whispering in concern.
Kitayama Hiromitsu brusquely brushed him aside, heading towards the bedroom. “I'm fine. It's nothing.” Was his short, blunt reply.
Taisuke backed away, sinking down onto the couch as he watched his boyfriend's back, his mind teeming with too many thoughts. What was going on? He didn't know...But his Kitayama was not acting very much like his Kitayama....Taisuke's lips formed a pout, saddened at the sudden change. He wanted to follow Kitayama and figure out what was wrong, but Kitayama's abruptness had unnerved him....
Pulling his legs up, he hugged them to his chest, his chin resting on his knees, staring at the bathroom door. He'd been dating Kitayama for nearly a year now. Officially, anyways. Some had been convinced that they'd been together since the day that they'd met, but it had taken a lot of time for them to realize how much they truly cared about each other. Just recently, they'd moved into the same apartment, and up until now, their relationship had been pure bliss.
But things had changed! 'Kitty' wasn't happy very much any more. He was always grouchy and gloomy and now he seemed to be avoiding the younger boy completely, or trying to, seeing as they lived together and shared the same bed. But something was definitely up. Taisuke closed his eyes, trying to think if he'd done anything that would have caused this, but he really couldn't seen anything at all. Everything seemed to have been normal...Practice, hanging with the other Kisumai boys, spending time just the two of them...Not like anything had really changed. So what was bugging Kitayama? If it wasn't Taisuke, then why wasn't he talking to Taisuke?
His phone buzzed and he pulled it out of his pocket. It was Yokoo and Taisuke opened it, wondering what his best friend had to say. They'd only parted a few hours earlier after practice. Taisuke frowned, feeling a bit guilty. He'd been hanging and joking with Yokoo and the others, without Hiro, because he'd been all glaring and weird again.
'Darn that Hiromitsu!' He pouted as he slid his phone open. The message popped up and he scrolled through it.
'Tai-chan~! I'm hanging with Nika and Miyacchi. We're going out for ice cream near your place. You two wanna come?'
Taisuke grinned and glanced up, looking at the bedroom's open door, beyond which, just out of sight, was Kitayama. Maybe ice cream would snap his boyfriend out of this mood? Who knew, Taisuke thought it had a good chance.
Peeking into the bathroom, he found Hiro just leaning back against the sink, his shirt off, staring at the wall. He didn't even seem to notice Taisuke nearing. “H-hiro?” Taisuke stayed at the doorway, his hand gently resting on the frame as he watched his boyfriend. “Wataru wants to know if we want to join him and the others for ice cream. Do you wanna go?”
Hiro was completely silent. Taisuke wasn't even sure he heard him except for a slight flick in his eyes.
“Hiro?” No response. “....Do you want to go...?” Taisuke tried again. Again, Kitayama gave him no reaction. “....Is it okay if I go without you...?” Taisuke prodded once more.
There was a stretch of silence, Taisuke's heart acting all strange. Why was this so nerve-wracking? It shouldn't be! This was Kitayama! His best friend and lover...They should have been past any awkward phases.
Finally Taisuke that Kitayama needed some space or something so he slowly shifted, pulling away from the door way. He felt his heart grow heavy with sadness. Why was this happening to them? He wanted to go back to when they just laugh and joke and roll around, making fun of each other. He wanted Kitayama to call out and tell him to come back, to tell him that it was okay.
“Taisuke...”
Taisuke froze, hearing his name called. He hadn't actually expected that to happen. He twisted slightly, looking over his shoulder at his boyfriend. “Hiro?”
Kitayama was now looking at him and that made Taisuke even more nervous. “Taisuke.....Do....do you..” Hiro just gazed at him, his eyes so full of emotions, though Taisuke couldn't quite name them.. “....Do you like Wataru?”
...Of all the questions Taisuke had expected to hear, it wasn't that. The pure numb shock he felt was clearly written on his face as he gasped slightly. “What?” The younger one just stared for a few minutes. “Wh-wh....Hiro!?” He moved closer, standing in front of his boyfriend, pushing at a shoulder gently. “Is...is that why you've been acting so frickin' weird?” He asked, still so surprised at the question. The stupidity of it all had him floored. “You think I like Wataru?”
And yes, there it was. Hiro's eyes avoided his own and the other slowly nodded.
Taisuke just looked at him for a few moments. “You....you...” He tried to find the right word to call Hiro right now. How dare he think something so ridiculous? Seriously, that was something so silly, he couldn't even imagine how the other had come up with it? And scaring Taisuke like that! That was such a unboyfriend like behavior in Taisuke's (slightly childish) opinion. “You idiot!” He exclaimed, half whacking Kitayama over the head. “We've been together for how long and you really have to ask that?” He really was exasperated with his boyfriend. This was a conversation he'd never even imagined happening. He paused, hands on his hips, waiting for Kitayama to give him some sort of answer.
Kitayama took several long moments, flushing as he fiddled with his wristband, still not meeting Taisuke's eyes. “Well...I dunno...It just...you guys just click together so well...And he's always smiling at you...you guys hug a lot...He makes you laugh all the time...And I dunno...It makes me wonder...If I'm not good enough.” Kitayama was struggling to not give in to a flood of emotions, Taisuke could see that. And it hurt to know that this was being said. “...Maybe I'm not the one meant for you.”
“...Hiro.” Taisuke said the name so firmly that Hiro's eyes flicked up to meet his. When the other glanced away again, Taisuke placed a hand under his chin, wanting to look into the other's eyes as he thought of what to say. Moments, long, precious moments passed as he just gazed into those dark eyes, searching his emotions for just the right words.
Finally he spoke.
“.....Hiro, you're stupid.”
...He really couldn't think of anything else to say, so instead, he leaned closer, caressing the other's cheek as he gently kissed the other's lips. He was soft, sweet, and he felt Kitayama slowly relax. Warm arms encircled him and pulled him closer, Kitayama returning the kiss, just as sweet and loving. A soft sigh, muscles relaxing, they shared that kiss for what felt like an eternity.
When they finally pulled back, Kitayama gently cupped Taisuke's face, stroking his cheek with a thumb. “Taisuke....” There was a soft smile.
That's all Taisuke wanted to see. Kitayama smiling. He'd do anything to make the other male smile like that. Happy, content, and all because of Taisuke.
“It's always been you.” Taisuke said, nuzzling him. “Always, always you, Hiro....Wataru's our friend...but I've loved you since the beginning.” He looked into those deep eyes, wanting Kitayama to see all of his emotions.
“I love you.”
Kitayama leaned forward, dropping small kisses over Taisuke's cheeks and nose. “Baby, I'm sorry....”
“Give me your smile again.” Taisuke sang softly, smiling at his own cheesiness. “And say you love me too.”
“You are the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.” Hiro whispered, smiling softly against Taisuke's lips. “You're my everything, Taisuke.”
“I. Love. You.” Taisuke prompted with a pout.
There was a soft chuckle. “I love you.” Kitayama didn't repeat the words, but let his heart fill them, warming the air around them as he claimed Taisuke's lips yet again. He felt the other melt against him and held him close.
Those three words were all they needed.
I love you.
