“Ryohei! Ryohei!” Takaki Yuya's slender frame struggled to chase after the much more athletic boy, his face mixing aggravation with a pout. It took a few more desperate yells before his friend finally halted. Yuya hadn't expected the sudden stop and proceeded to plow into his best friend, Suzuki Ryohei.

“Umph!” Ryohei started to fall, arms flailing for something to keep him upright. The only thing he encountered was Yuya, and they promptly fell over, Yuya's landing cushioned by the other's body. “...God, Yuya, watch where you're going.” Ryohei pretended to scowl down at the younger boy.

Takaki Yuya and Suzuki Ryohei had been best friends since the start of the school year, Yuya's first year of high school, Ryohei's last. They were a strange sight. Ryohei was the dream boy for the entire female school population. Dark, intense eyes, gorgeous black hair just long enough to want to curl your fingers in, beautifully muscled and darkly tanned , with a perfectly masculine air around him, Ryohei was also kind, sweet, funny, and extremely cool, something he obtained effortlessly. Yuya was the complete opposite; Pale with long hair he'd dyed a lighter reddish brown, his eyes were gigantic and open. He was a bit clumsy, but weirdly graceful all the same, still growing into his body. His features were those that made most girls jealous, and while he did have muscle, it wasn't enough to define him as a guy, especially since he was so small. Being mistaken for a girl was nothing new for Yuya.

Tall, strong Ryohei, age 18. Cute, adorable Yuya, age 14. They'd met when Yuya had gotten lost while moving into the dorms and they'd be near inseparable since then, growing close in a nearly impossible fashion, though now they had Ryohei's graduation merely a week away. They were both sad that they would be separated. Ryohei had already been accepted into a Tokyo university, so he'd be leaving Osaka soon. Just the thought made Yuya blue. He didn't know what he'd do without his protector and best friend.

Also, there were these other feelings Yuya had...the ones that were about Ryohei and much more then friendly.

“Yuya, spacehead, you've got an elbow in my stomach!” Ryohei's half complaint brought Yuya back to the real world and he shifted, making to get off of Ryohei completely. However, Ryohei's arms looped around his shoulders. Yuya happily took the opportunity to cuddle on him, sighing and closing his eyes. They were sprawled in the park, under a tree, just a bit isolated from the rest of the crazy world. It was nice and warm in Ryohei's arms, like always.

Ryohei lay there for a moment, humming softly. “Yuya....you have to stop panicking.” He smoothed at the smaller male's hair. “I'm not going to vanish...”

“...But you're leaving.” Yuya replied softly, wishing this topic didn't enter their conversations so often.

“We can still keep in touch.” Hooking a finger under Yuya's chin, Ryohei brought it up so they were looking at eachother. “It'll be okay, I'm not leaving forever.”

“But...” Yuya just looked away, not wanting to see those dark, affectionate eyes. They made his heart race, his cheeks flush slightly.

“Yuya...?” Ryohei made him look up again and the urges that had been building up for weeks just got to be too much. He leaned up, shyly kissing the other.

It wasn't actually the first time they'd kissed, even though Ryohei's reputation was that of being completely straight. It was just something everyone excepted, because of how close Yuya and Ryohei were. There wasn't romance behind those kisses, just a love and affection that they'd always had.

This kiss was different. Yuya did feel something more then just affection and admiration. He'd come to like Ryohei, wanting him in a way he didn't even fully understand at his young age. He felt a burst of surprise when Ryohei kissed back, propping himself up on an elbow, still holding Yuya close with his free arm. The kiss lasted for several moments before they both pulled away, Yuya feeling elated. Until he saw the sadness in Ryohei's eyes. “R-ryohei?” He asked softly, afraid that his actions were terribly wrong. “I'm sorry...” He looked away.

Fingers gently brushed his bangs away before caressing his cheeks. “Oh Yuya...I wish we had more time...and I was different.” Ryohei whispered, sounding so sad it took Yuya's breath away. “I can't hurt you like this...We'd...it'd never work, Yuya. We just can't...I'm sorry.”

Yuya shook his head, trying to show he understood, blinking back tears as they pulled each other into a desperate hug. So right, but all wrong for them. A love that was wonderful, but too flawed already to be given a chance. Yuya clung to Ryohei as they shared another kiss, though he felt tears slipping down his cheeks, and he wasn't alone. Ryohei's own cheek were warm and wet as they kissed, though it was so hopeless Though they were entwined, it felt like they were already letting go of each other.

With a cry, Yuya bolted upright, tears carrying over from dream to reality. His heart ached, and he couldn't breath for a moment, still waking up from fading memories.

“Yuyan?” Yuya's lover, Yabu Kouta, stirred at his side, raising his head sleepily. “Yuyan, what's wrong.”

“N-nothing....” Yuya shuddered, knowing Kouta could easily hear that lie. Warm arms embraced him, pulling him close so Kouta could wipe away the tears. “J-just a bad dream...” Yuya answered again. It was a sweet memory, but so painful. He and Ryohei had tried to keep in touch and just stay friends, but those unfulfilled desires began to haunt them both. School got in the way as well, Ryohei studying hard with a double major while Yuya struggled with accelerated high school studies. By the time Yuya was 17, he and Ryohei no longer spoke at all, and later, when Yuya had tried to see Ryohei again, his phone number had been disconnected. That had been the true end, and Yuya had walked away with a broken heart.

Now 21 and a detective, Yuya lived in central Tokyo with his boyfriend of six months, Yabu Kouta. Kouta owned his own flowershop and was also a culinary genius, something Yuya simply adored, because it meant that he had amazing food and flowers waiting for him whenever he had those excruciatingly long days. They didn't have a perfect relationship, but even the fights drew them close. Still having that romantic passion, while developing a grounded, stable love for each other. Yuya would never have imagined two years earlier when they'd met, that he'd have Yabu Kouta sharing a bed with him. There had been instant love and hate between them, their friendship a complete roller coaster before Yuya had just told Kouta to just shut up and kiss him. Kouta had done just that, and since then, they'd worked to build up to where they were now.

And right now, Kouta was all Yuya needed to calm down. The other's embrace, the kiss gently pressed to his forehead, was all he needed. “I'm okay~” He reassured Kouta, smiling softly up at him. He loved Kouta so much...And it disturbed him that feelings long forgotten had been brought back to surface. Ryohei was something of the past now...He had Kouta.

They lay in silence for a few moments, not needing words right now, just needing the other's presence. It startled them both when Yuya's phone rang out, right as light rays broke through the shrouded curtains. It was his loudest ringtone, the one set for his boss, and he lept out of bed, mind instantly awake. Yuya was part of a special investigatory force, once that dealt mostly in yakuza related crimes, drug trafficking and shootings and whatnot. While night calls weren't regular for him, they still happened, so he had to be prepared.

He flipped his phone open, crisp, though he'd been half asleep moments earlier. “Yeah, boss?”

“I need you here now, Takaki.” His boss's familiar firm voice came over their connection. She gave him their location and then hung up, not saying goodbye, just saying “It's another shooting.”

Yuya flipped the phone shut and hurried over to the bed, dropping a kiss on Kouta's lips. “Sorry, hon, gotta run...”

Kouta cupped his face, making the kiss last a moment longer. “Fine, fine~ I'll be at the shop all day, but I'll be sure there's food here if you get back before I do. And grab something on the way out!”

Yuya chuckled as he hurriedly pulled boxers and a suit on. “I will, I will.” He didn't mind the half scolding tone Kouta had used. His eating habits were terrible, even he couldn't deny it. He skipped at least half of his meals, if Kouta didn't call him to make sure he had. Hell, Kouta had even called his boss a few times to make sure Yuya ate. It was sweet, though it sometimes caused fights.

“Love you~” He dropped another kiss on Kouta, who'd followed him out to the main room. Yuya pulled his coat on as Kouta handed him a container of something (sushi, mostly likely). With a wave, Yuya vanished out the door, heading to a new crime. He was smiling, though grim. Shootings were never good, but he loved having something to do...

But even he couldn't anticipate what would be unleashed on his arrival.

After all, it wasn't like he could go back.
