Bouncing around about this episode. Because while it was irritating in some ways, there is so much potential for awesome in the moving parts of it (some of which were near-flawless) all that - Ugh.

DAMON, brat prince, perennial outsider, favorite. My heart.

BONNIE DID SOMETHING BECAUSE SHE WANTED TO. SPIRITS DON'T GET TO TELL ME WHAT TO DO ANY MORE. Because the spirits are the ones who have been pushing her around this far? Or not. Whatever, Bonnie did her own thing and Abby survived, and she's got some fascinating stuff set up with her reluctant alliance with Klaus. And how much is the narrative on board with Bonnie/Damon?! Well, they did possess her last episode and make her do something she categorically wouldn't have done if she'd had a choice; also facilitated Esther siphoning her powers for like ever, so I figure that's why she's so completely over them ( ... )

Yeah, it set up some stuff that could be truly awesome next season.

True. I guess I just don't want it to turn into, "the SPIRITS are Bonnie's problem!" and implicitly gloss over the ways her friendships screw her over too, I guess.

Bonnie/Damon feelings keep overwhelming me because how similarly do these fools operate? Ugh. Pragmatic otp of getting shit done.

SHAMELESS FAVORITESHIPPING. But also, they play off each other in this fantastic way, and I love that the show is figuring that out and making use of their dynamic.

The triangle. Over it and so anvillicious, my ears are ringing (yet I'm not even sure what half the anvils mean). But. Vampire Elena. That's all that matters to meeeee!

ha, preach.

Word about the whole false choice they're constantly setting up with the ~decision making. Let's empower Elena! TO MAKE CHOICES FOR EVERYONE. It makes me nuts that they keep leaning on this false sense of female empowerment to set it up where Elena gets to choose everything that affects everyone ever.

I agree about the Klaus-as-Tyler goodbye scene with Caroline. The sappiness made a lot more sense in hindsight. And I am curious to see how this affects Bonnie and Caroline's friendship--but mostly I'm just inconsolable over Tyler. I think I'm in the anger stage of grief right now.

nod nod.

TYLER IS GOING TO BE OKAY. SOMEHOW. He has to be. *denial*

Bad enough that Stefan struts around congratulating himself about how he "lets" Elena make her own decisions, but Matt is the one who takes it upon himself to suggest substituting his own judgment for hers: "even if she's wrong." (I did feel for him when he flips his shit over Tyler dying, though.)

Agreed on all of this so far. I’m not mad at Jeremy, actually: I think it was stupid of him to do, but he’s lost everyone and he’s so heartbreakingly young and she’s his sister and the only one he has. It’s kind of like how I fanwank that Dawn kicking Buffy out in “Empty Places” was because she thought it would be safer for Buffy-when I think about it in that way, I forgive Dawn entirely and don’t feel a bit mad about it. Here, I find Jeremy’s actions totally understandable, poor boy. But I’m ticked at Matt.

Jer's just doing exactly what she has done to him, time and again, but to a much lesser extent (he didn't actually reach into her head and fuck with her mind) and with a decision he has exactly as much legitimate right to as she ( ... )

I am so ecstatic she didn’t die. I love her so much. Klaus can go away forever, and I like how Elijah just pops in every now and then and is hot, but isn’t always around. But Rebekah can stay forever.

THIIIIIS. I was SO WORRIED about her for a moment there. REBEKAH, MY PRINCESS.

OH. OH. I just occurred to me that Tyler says he was with Bonnie earlier-did he give her permission to move Klaus into his body when he died? That would be interesting. I’m still not sure why they decided to do that, but. Whatever.

Ooooooh, that's interesting. I think Tyler could easily be persuaded to do that if it meant saving Caroline. And it'd be a pretty poignant parallel to when he was basically okay with Klaus having made him a vampire early in the season.

Even leaving aside, oh, THE ENTIRE WORLD because this isn't Buffy and that's totally cool, letting Klaus loose is something that affects all of them at least as much as it affects her. In fact, it affects her a lot less than them, because Klaus wants her alive?

This is more show fail than anything, but I also wanted to say that Klaus being out really DOESN'T affect anyone else, because he's clearly not going to kill any of them at this point. They've tried to murder his family time after time, and he had no reason not to rip their hearts out and be done with it. The only reason the Salvatores have survived is protagonist privilege. It makes no sense at any level why Klaus, Rebekah, or Kol haven't killed the Salvatores and been done with it.

lol, true, but Klaus is not exactly a strategic genius. His whole thing is that he's chaos because nobody can stop him. He likes to pull the wings off butterflies and play with his food. Elena at least has some reason to feel secure in her own life, but the others are alive at his indulgence. They would have to spend the rest of their lives - which for the Salvatores, Caroline, and Tyler is forever - dreading the moment he gets bored and changes his mind. Even if Elijah doesn't double-cross them for Klaus like he did what, six months ago? As much as he's one of *my* favorites, the people with the most at stake have a whole lot of reason not to trust him. It really doesn't sit well with me that *of course* it's Elena's call to put them through that, and questioning that would mean not! respecting! her! decisions!

Rebekah seriously just has to show up to grab me emotionally. The classical horror movie shot of her walking around the storage unit is genuinely scary; that last beat with her and Elijah is absolutely heartbreaking.

Yessss, she was wonderful. Thank goodness they all survived.

Vampire Elena should be good. I am looking forward to this.
