Hi All,
As promised this morning, here are the submission instructions. I've basically grabbed last year's instructions and changed some links, but most of the pictures will say 2011, please mentally substitute 2012 instead. :)
We're going to be hosting the final products on AO3. This means that you can hand the fic portion of your project in before the podfic part. If you don't have an account with AO3, than please let me know, I'll send you an invitation.
Handing in Projects through AO3 - Written Component
We'll start off by uploading the fic to AO3. Head over to the
Pod_Together Collection on AO3 and click "
Post to Collection":
This will take you to the upload page. Many of you have already used AO3 so it should be familiar to you. Most of the fields are self explanatory but some of them are not so much. Below I'm going to provide some general info for those new to AO3, as well as some suggestions for all. You can fill out the fields however you'd like, however I've also included some suggestions:
For those new to AO3: The "Additional Tags" field allows you to put any additional information not covered in the main fields. If you want to include genre information (AU, mpreg, H/C, etc.), warnings not covered in the main archive warnings (ie. drugs, suicidal thoughts, etc.) or any other info you think people might use to find your project, this is the place to put it.
For all: At the very least you should include the tags "Podfic" and "Community: pod-together". You might also want to include: Audio Format: M4B, Audio Format: MP3, Audio Format: Stream.
The Next section of the upload form includes Title, Author, Summary and Notes. For the author section, it's really important that you select "Add co-authors?" and add in the name of your partner(s).
I know the term "co-author" doesn't fit this challenge very well, however listing podficcers as co-authors will give them access to the project. This will mean that they have editing access (which will be important later) and that they'll get comment/kudos notifications.
In this section there's also the options for notes, either at the beginning, end or at both locations. I'd suggest that you clarify who the author/podficcer(s) are in beginning notes as well as any author/podficcer notes you may have.
The end notes are generally used for long/spoilery notes you may want to add. It would also be a great place to talk about the collaborative experience of
pod_together, like if you've noticed interesting ways that working on this piece was different from your normal experience writing fic (or podficcing, in the case of podficcers).
In the "Associations" section, it is super important "pod_together2012" is listed in the "Post to Collections/Challenges:" field. If you clicked through the collection page to submit, it should already be there. If for any reason it's not, please add it.
And in the last section you simply add the text of the fic.
Once you're done, you'll have the option to preview and then submit the fic.
When you're finished and have submitted, you'll be brought to the page for your story. At the top you see a message reading:
It is very important that you get this message! If you don't get it, your story is most likely publicly posted and anyone will be able to see it, rather than waiting for reveals with the rest of the
pod_together collection.
You should be able to see your work, but others will see it as a "Mystery Work"
Podfic Specific Instructions
Please email the mods a link of the podfic to: pod.together at gmail dot com. If you have cover art please send us that file as well.
Podfics should be mp3 files. You're welcome to send an m4b file as well; otherwise, the mods will create one for you. All podfics will be hosted on
paraka's website so we can ensure active downloads/streams when we post. We ask that everyone leave their podfic up for at least 6 months, however after that if you ever want/need to have it taken down, please email
paraka at parakaproductions at gmail dot com and it'll be removed right away. Also remember that, if an emergency ever arises where the link needs to be made unavailable immediately, you will be able to edit the AO3 post to remove the embeds and download links to the podfic right away.
Because we're going to be offering a streaming option (which will run off the mp3 file) it would be helpful if the mp3 is a single file.
If you feel that your podfic would benefit from multiple streams, please specify in your email when handing it in (for example, last year, one group did an anthology and requested that each story have it's own stream, another group did filk and asked that the song have it's own stream, etc.).
Once your podfic (and cover art, if you have it) has been uploaded, the mods will send you links as well as code to add to the AO3 entry. Since podficcers are listed as co-authors when the fic is uploaded, you will have access to edit the project.
You will be able to add any tags you think are missing, your own reader's notes and/or thoughts on your experience with
pod_together.
You can add the stream/download code at the top (and/or throughout as required), save your work, then sit back and wait for reveals.
