Hey!

Does anyone have any tips on reading Flashbacks that are just thrown into the story like this:
"You are so gorgeous," he whispered.
"You're disgusting! You're a disgusting, filthy girl!""I love you ( Read more... )

Hmmm. I was also gonna suggest an echo but, yeah. Def wouldn't want to listen to that for pages.

Maybe...a little bit of static? If you use noise removal, maybe less on those parts? I'm not sure what would go with the story, but Audacity has a LOT of settings you can mess with. Maybe you could muffle the parts slightly? Increase or decrease the pitch?

OR, you can read it as is. Changes in your inflection could totally be enough to get across to listeners that the passage is a flashback. ♥

Thanks for the suggestions! I really like the idea of muffling the flashbacks. I think I am going to try that!

Thanks!

I have heard it done by splicing two recordings, one in each voice/time. The natural differences in tone and the difference in performance made the easy to hear which was which. But it takes a little work splicing it together in the end.

I like a lot of feeling and performance in podfic though, not everyone does. Some like a plain reading best.

That sounds like a really cool way of doing it! I have to edit a lot anyway, since I am not recording in my native language, so a little more editing wouldn't be too much of a problem.

I LOVE performance in a podfic! This is my first attempt at recording anything, so I am still figuring out where the line is between too much performance and boring :)

Maybe use a whispering voice for the flashbacks.

Thank you for the suggestion! I actually tried that first, but my whispering voice gets really annoying after a few lines of text... :/

I think it might even work if you do the one liner flashback bits with an echo effect, and the longer passages without any effect. I trust that from the flow of the story it will be clear that the long bit is a flashback without the effect.
