Where to Upload Podfic

Nov 22, 2015 12:39

I have to reupload my podfic, but I'm not sure where to do this.

Where do you all put yours? Names I know of are Box, Dropbox, and Mediafire, but I don't know the pros and cons of each? I seem to remember that mediafire links expire?

I know a lot of people still use Mediafire, and that's okay for short time periods, but it does have an expiration. You could put yours up on a Dropbox account and then use the public link for LJ entries, but if you have a lot of files, that could take up lots of room. Dropbox accounts are not huge (6-10 GB, I think) and if you ever close your account, those files could be lost. Or you could have your own site somewhere and upload them all there. Pick one of those options, then send a message to the Audiofic Archive people and they will put the files in a permanent location. Information about that is here:

Re: Audiofic Archive: If you post your fic to the amplificathon community, they'll add it to the archive automatically.

What I forgot to say: You'll need to provide a temporary download link, like from mediafire or dropbox so they can get the file(s) from somewhere, but once you got the permanent archive link you can just go ahead and delete the files from whatever other temporary client you used.

I think mediafire links only expire if you have a free account. So depends if you think it's worth paying for a basic account (and of course if that's financially doable). The advantage compared to the Archive is that on the Audiofic Archive all download formats are zip files which means no one can just click on an MP3 link from there and play something on their phone etc. at random - have to download it at home then load up via iTunes or whatever. On mediafire if you click on the link the MP3 streams immediately. I tend to put podfic on amplificathon to get it into the Archive as a back-up, and also host it on Paraka's site or mediafire.
