Grad Time

HAPPY GRADUATION TO EJ!!

Graduation... how very anticlimactic. Glad that it's over.

If anyone takes a look at my journal, s/he might notice that everything from before Jan 1, 2005, has been deleted. This is no mistake. I'm moving on. For good.

OKAY! I've been tagged by a couple people for this survey, so bring it on!

We're supposed to list our six favorite songs, then tag six others to do the same. Musical alien that I am, I'm going to choose two sets of six: six all-time favorites, and six songs of the moment. To be fair, no artist will be listed twice within the same section. You game?

Six all-time favorite songs:
  1. Sleater-Kinney - Get Up
Best. Song. Ever. I quoted it on my senior page.
  2. Le Tigre - Deceptacon
Because the original is always the best.
  3. The Butchies - Disco (Feminist Remix)
It was hard to pick my favorite Butchies song. I knew I had to go with the old stuff, before they dropped "The" in their name, but beyond that, there are so many. Kaia Wilson is forever my first rock 'n' roll crush.
  4. Mirah - Apples In The Trees
"You don't have to wait until you die..."
If this song doesn't make you happy, you need more therapy than most people can afford.
  5. Metric - Combat Baby
Like the case with the Butchies, picking a favorite Metric song was tres difficult. The deciding factor in both cases was that these are "inspiring" songs.
  6. Artificial Joy Club - No Shame
"Either way, I'm really ten feet tall, with no shame at all..."
Six Songs of the Moment:
  1. Sleater-Kinney - Dance Song '97
    I can't resist. I'm printing these lyrics.
  2. Mirah - Mt. Saint Helens
Mirah has a really sweet way of being angry.
  3. Modest Mouse - Float On
I wish this had been my class song. It would have made a kickin' one.
  4. Le Tigre - I'm So Excited
I'm pretty sure this is a cover of something, but I don't know who did the original. It's probably in the album insert or something crazy like that.
  5. Butchies - Tell The Others
By now, it's obvious that I have a lot of albums by the same few bands. Actually, I like other bands too... The Magnetic Fields, Atom and His Package, Elliot Smith, Tegan and Sara, and other bands most people have never heard of--plus bands that get radio playtime, so I'm not going to bother listing them. Okay, well, I'll mention The Killers, just because they're cool. But I digress. This was a big Summer Camp '04 song for me. You may not believe me, but you can dance to it, as long as you're alone, in the dark, and naked... or in your suite living room.
  6. Fall Out Boy- Sugar, We're Goin' Down
This is my Obligatory Popular Song of the Moment. I don't know how some artists can make an interesting song out of just variations on the chorus, but it works, and that's all that matters.

Sleater-Kinney - Dance Song '97

well you know there ain't no doubt
when the feeling finds you out
you know you can try to run
i tell you it still will come

when you feel your body shake
trip and fall you can't walk straight
baby then you know it's done
you can feel your heart is stung

you're the one that i saw
you're the one that i want

well you can try to keep it down
try not to let the words come out
well i tell you it's no use
in your eyes they see right through

if you're going way too hard
if you're feeling way too much
but inside you can't stop
desire she eats you up

you're the one that i saw
you're the one that i want

Who's next? Let's see...
