Fuck My Generation!

So.. I cried during Star Trek. But not for the reason you might think.

So.. It was going really good. Relatively true to the characters, great actors and actresses... I was loving it!

And then the romance began. Spock/Uhura.

... Hell no. Okay, just, no. When it started, I freaked out. There are no sex scenes, true, but it is a clear-cut statement to the sex-obsessed nature of my generation, the people that J.J. Abrams is attempting to reel in.

Can we not have a movie about the friendship of the crew? The camaraderie? Like Star Trek was originally about?

Apparently not.

What this plotline said to me is that my generation is incapable of going to see a movie that does not contain romance of some sort; as if Kirk hitting on every random woman he saw wasn't enough! Uhura/Spock was completely unnecessary and such a random pairing that it makes my brain hurt.

WTF?! Seriously... WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK?!

When I started to think about what the inclusion of the Spock/Uhura romance stood for, to me, I started to cry - Literally. I'm not kidding, as pathetic as that is. I lost interest in the rest of the movie, though I admit, some parts were frankly adorable. (Not the romance... Other scenes.)

I hate that I allowed one little detail to ruin my experience, but I could not help myself. Although the movie, as a whole, was excellent, the thought that I was not even able to see a movie about overall friendship made me hate my generation. The prospect made me want to scream and cry and bitch (Which I did. Very loudly.)

That they had to make room for some sort of romance rather than simply depicting how the entire crew grew to love, or at least respect, one another in a very platonic and non-sexual fashion.... ARG!!! (They somewhat accomplished this, but in my opinion, the achievement is overshadowed by the fact that they included the Spock/Uhura; therefore taking away the chance Uhura had to make an impression on the crew in any way other than being 'Spock's Girl.' Yes, she's very intelligent, but her character's impact is eventually watered down to her being Spock's Love Interest, which is something I more than loathe since she was one of the original 'spunky' girls on tv as well as a role model to a lot of young woman in the 60s. She didn't need to be in some sort of relationship with a crew member in order to establish her importance to the ship. She had some good 'oh, look what I can do!' portions, but in the end, it was all about her and Spock.)

Not to mention that my sister ate it up! Then again, she is a perfect example of the blind conformity of society... So never mind. She doesn't count.... O_o

But, seriously, am I the only one who is completely angered by the random romance? I swear, they pulled that shit out of their ass... I mean, really?! .... WTF!!!!!????????

*RAGE*

film, fuck you, wtf, rant, star trek
