[For Michael] DINOPLOT!

Aug 08, 2007 20:45

The earthquake had awoken Julian with a start. He'd sat up, putting a hand on Anthony's arm, looking around in bewilderment as tremors shook the cave. "What--" And then Anthony was gone. The cave was gone. He was sitting alone in the jungle, wrapped in a sheet ( Read more... )

continued from here. It's f-locked due to sexual content.

Michael had kept looking over his shoulder to make sure the small dino had followed him to investigate more the being that had made those smells. He didn't even see Julian until he collided with him. He fell down hard on his butt and it was a miracle he kept the sheet wrapped around his waist.

He lifted a hand to rub his head where they'd knocked their together when they'd collided and gave a small groan. "You too?" He asked of Julian in a commiserating tone. He was slightly pleased to note the sheet Julian was wrapped in, at least he wasn't the only one out here barely clothed.

Julian glanced over his shoulder before answering, but whatever had been stirring in the foliage didn't seem to have given chase. "What happened?" he asked Michael, getting to his feet carefully and rubbing his head as well as trying to straighten his sheet. "How did we come to be here? Did you just appear suddenly, as well?"

Standing and rubbing the growing bruise on his butt, Michael adjusted his own sheet so he didn't have to hold onto it. "It's the fucking island. It's done this before, just randomly takes people and plops them down into..." His face flushed as he realized what he was saying, "the dino part of the island."

Oh fucking shit.

"Yes, I'd rather noticed that part," Julian admitted, glancing round nervously. "So...what do we do now? I don't have any sort of weapon--nothing but a sheet and my socks, honestly," he remarked with a faint blush, although it hadn't escaped his notice that Michael was wearing just as little. He just hoped he didn't ask about the socks (which were starting to feel a bit damp and uncomfortable already, but he'd be damned if he'd leave Aunt Virginia's socks in the dinosaur territory).

They'd been walking (or limping, as the case may be) for hours, and had made depressingly little progress, between the dense jungle and Julian's ankle. He leant against a tree, easing his weight off of it, biting the inside of his cheek. "I have to stop for a minute," he told Michael apologetically, closing his eyes and slowly sinking to the ground, stretching his leg out straight in front of him. The pain was constant by now, and growing more unbearable with every step. "God..."

Wordlessly, Micheal knelt down in front of him and peeled down the outer sock so he could get another look at Julian's ankle. He couldn't stop a wince in sympathy as he wrapped it back up, as the swelling looked worse. Looking around, he picked up a short length of a really thick branch and used it to elevated the ankle a little.

Then he sat back on his heels and sighed. Julian was in pain and their wasn't anything Michael could do. He wished they'd happened upon some water at least. "You should probably lean on me for a while, the weight on it can't be good."

Julian nodded tiredly without opening his eyes. "...If you wanted to go on ahead without me, I'd understand. I'm only slowing you down," he said quietly, sincerely. The thought of being alone in this place was not exactly a pleasant one, but it would be better if one of them made it back than neither, and they were ill-equipped to fend off a dinosaur if their slow, less-than-quiet going attracted one's attention.

Michael just gave him a pointed look and smile. "What, and face Anthony's glare of doom? I'll take my chances with you and the dinos thanks." He said with as much humor as he could in the situation. But he was serious in one thing, he wasn't leaving here without Julian and he said so much. "We get out of here together okay?" Then he too sat back. "Slow and steady. we'll get there."

He wished he believed it as much as he was convincing Julian he was.

They'd pressed on slowly until it began to get dark, finally growing thirsty enough to drink whatever small pools of rainwater they could find along the way, even though the water tasted stagnant and muddy. It was wet, at least, what little of it there was to be had ( ... )

Michael took wanted to just lay down and sleep but he had to check on Julian first. Silently, he came and over and knelt by Julian's side, checking first his ankle, which at least hadn't gotten any worse though still had to be extremely painful, then the bite. As the other tore up bandages, Michael tried to clean it as best he could with a small portion of his sheet that had remained semi clean some how, before rewrapping it.

Once Julian was tended too, Michael sat back against a tree and cleaned the scratches on his lower thigh and both shins. They weren't as deep as he'd feared, just bleeding and being genuinely messy. Finally, with a deep sigh, he sat back and closed his eyes for a moment, trying to just relax for the first time all day.

Wrapped in fresh bandages, Julian stretched out on his back, folding his arms behind his head with a sigh of his own. "...Do you really think we'll make it back?" he asked quietly after a minute. He wasn't so certain, himself.

If there was one thing his mother had taught him, was that if you were certain about something, you could make it happen. Uncle Vic was proof of that. "Of course we will." He said with as much certainty as he could. "I haven't lived on this fucking island for over a year to let it get to me now."

Sunday was another long day of walking, though much less eventful than the day before. There'd been a brief round of tired cheering as the two men crossed the fence out of dinosaur territory, but the snail's pace Julian's injuries kept them to made it apparent they would not make it back to the compound that night. They found a likely spot and settled in for the night, the few pieces of fruit Michael had managed to scavenge earlier nothing more than a fond memory by sunset.

Julian rested his back against a tree trunk, groaning as the various aches and pains of his body made themselves known loudly once he stopped moving. "At least the worst of it's over," he observed to Michael with a wan smile.

Even Michael groaned softly as he sat against a tree trunk nearby. The small cove of trees was a nice little shelter, even without the threat of dinosaurs. While Michael had breathed a bit easier after the fence, the slow pace was still frustrating, he knew for him and Julian both, but there was no choice. And it didn't stop his body from just genuinely aching.

Returning Julian's smile, Michael took a deep breath and closed his eyes, just enjoying the feeling of not moving. "Yeah, we can at least sleep without one eyes open tonight in fear of being dino food."

"Indeed. And if all goes well, we may even be back to the compound by lunchtime." The thought made his stomach ache longingly for food, but he did his best to ignore it and the myriad other aches. "It'll be nice to get back to some form of civilisation." And Anthony. It would be particularly nice to get back to Anthony. Closing his eyes, Julian could see him, smiling that soft, tender smile that few people ever saw.

Michael was doing the same, though concentrating on just breathing in and out helped him ignore each new little pang that now wanted to be known now that he wasn't moving. Though he did crack and smirked without opening his eyes. "Civilization in the form of two Englishmen, am I right?" He said teasingly.
