A super quick update. I have exciting news. I will start from small to big.

I placed third place in the Cal Poly Creative Writing contest. I'm really stoked-- I've never been recognized for my writing. I will be published in our literary magazine and I get fifty bucks. You can read the award-winning poem here. Be warned. It's a little erotic.
My Gardener

Finger tips trace and circle the carnation rings
as he counts the freckles on my left breast
like a child exploring the Ouija board
sailing the planchette to the prediction he wants.
He told me my body is his first:
the nook directly under my breast
sheltered by flesh,
the shadow of my shoulder blade,
the valley down there
(he doesn’t know what to call it yet)-
he studies these sites with the diligence
of an archeologist lost in the mysteries
of a fossil speaking tongues.
He draws a map with my stretch marks,
unsure of the origin or destination.
And while he knows only me,
memories of beer drenched compliments
leading to one night stands flush through my head,
but only through static, like a ten year old trying
to make out body parts on a blocked adult channel.
But this one is different-when I close my eyes
I can see the birthmark on his left thigh
like a state capital star. I can taste the salted
taffy of his ear lobe.
Maybe he won’t notice the collection
of finger prints on my collarbones
or the sweat stains smeared on my ribs.
And he doesn’t.
Instead, he seeks beyond the arch of my back,
sweeping through rusted curves and dents,
finally resting on a crease between my breast
and arm pit. It tickles
because it is fresh; so he gardens this triangle,
softening soil with his palms, hiding seeds
with the pads under his knuckles. Hoping
for hibiscus or lilies,
we sit back to see what will grow.

After reading the poem, you may wonder who it is about. I have an amazing partner. We have been dating for two months and he constantly amazes me with his sincerity, dedication, and sweetness. I absolutely adore him. You can see a picture of us here.

My last news is my most exciting news.

Are you ready?

Take a deep breath.

Ryan is completely done with chemo.

After six years.

HE IS DONE.

Amazing, eh?

Thank you to all who were amazingly supportive through this very difficult time. Ryan and I couldn't have remained sane without all your positive thoughts. Especially Jed, Melissa, Summer, and An, who showed their love and devotion for my family througout this entire ordeal. I love you very dearly.

That is all. =)
