Contrary to popular belief, it is not a bachelor's or master's degree that gets you a job post college (although they both help a lot). It's actually putting together a resume, going out there and making people see you and your skills. We can't all believe that because we have taken 4-5 years of higher education, which many of us can bullshit our way through anyway, we will automatically be handed a job the moment after we accept our diploma.
I'm not saying that all of these people you have met expected this, but I think that's a big part of why certain people go to college.
