the july/august issue of American Photo has a list of recommended compact cameras. Their top rated are the Sony Cybershot DSC-G3 & the Samsung HZ15W, but have a list of other ones that made Editors Choice.
I would recommend going to Best Buy or Target (or other store that has a wide selection) and see what feels best, if you want one with an expanding lens, or flat, how you like the zoom in feature, some zoom smooth & others are a little jumpy. How you like the LCD on the back (size & view). How you like the controls (buttons, zoom/wide switches etc.). How small/compact it is. The Mega Pixel # is something that some people brag about, but I was able to print very good 8X10 pictures with a 2mp camera, anything over 5 or 6 is more then enough unless you are planning on printing larger then poster size prints.
Also, test out the Macro setting, if you think you might want to take extreme close-ups or detail shots.
Thanks! I'm not sure about all the features, since I will prob never bother to learn how to use them well. I should have know you would be the guy to ask though! ;p
