So my Dad's wedding was just over a week ago.

It was fucking horrendous. I have this thing with my maternal g-rents where I always think I'm exaggerating how terrible they are, and then, when I see them, I'm just reminded that it's so much worse than I thought. If he was going to return to being reasonable.. it might have happened sometime in the last two years?

(Speaking of obstacles to love, what about Lynn's ex-husband? Yeesh)

Anyway, that sounds horrific. Do you stand to lose anything if you cut your Dad out of your life? I mean, other than a relationship that already feels pretty lost?

Financial support I hope to soon not really need, it would probably strain my relationship with my sister.

Well, I say do it as soon as you've got a job. And possibly do it passively rather than sending a big dramatic "I AM CUTTING YOU OUT OF MY LIFE!" message.

I'm sorry things went so badly. I'm especially sorry to hear that they couldn't just have their day be about them instead of having to spit on the grave to talk about their love. There are so many ways they could have done it without ever having to bash on past loves! how could ANYONE think that wasn't hugely inappropriate?! Seriously, at that point I might have just excused myself quietly; I'm proud of you for being all grown up and not ditching out, but man. wow.

And I second the idea that if you choose to cut things off, you should just do it by distancing yourself, and not like, spray paint it on his car. Not only will that help to make things less awkward for you & gabe, but if enough time passes to make him less craptacular about it all, then you may be able to let him back into your life without having to eat your words.
