Feeling is...

My highschool philosophy teacher once said: "animals don't have language; therefore, they don't think". I racked my brain trying fit this into my own experience of living and working with animals. I don't know if I've succeeded in forming an opinion on a scientific level but certainly on a personal level I have.

After being around animals all my life and rescuing somewhere in the neighborhood of 6-700 cats, I can say anyone who thinks animals don't have feelings is kidding themself. A dog may experience more complex feelings than, say a frog, but they are still feelings. It won't stop me from eating them though.

That's my experience too. I then don't eat them, but that's my choice and would never lay that one anyone else.

Interesting and I also agree; I like the last sentence of this -- "I think I prefer my philosophy teacher to the selectivists; at least he didn't make a distinction in philosophies between animals he likes and dislikes."
