well we made it to the lodge and i decided that i am teaching
history/english in a secondary school. the group was divided into two 5
person groups. mere is in the one going to a primary school. she likes the
little kiddies. we toured both schools today and met the classes. they
sang "if you're happy and you know it" to us. it was very cute. i am in an
internet cafe in arusha city right now, but i don't think i will be around
the internet for another week+. the sleeping arrangements are superb, poff
and i are sharing. we had the most frigid shower in the world this morning
at 4am, we were suprised that others weren't woken up by our wimpers and
the winding of the flashlight (i have the wind up non battery one). as to
being up at 4am, we couldn't sleep and saw the sunrise and mount meru. we
couldn't sleep because mere thought there were monkeys outside on the
roof, and also there were some suspicious noises coming from outside the
netting (netting around our cozy nest of a bed). meredith finds many
similarities between ghana and tanzania besides the language and she is
sitting next to me, this is an email for both you and the poffs. she is
dictating some things like "i love you mom poff and dad poff". and all
other poffs. watched a rooster crow and today is the first day in arusha
city. it is somewhat crowded but for the most part the people are
understanding and polite. we went to dinner together and the waitress
invited us back for a thursday night fun night that takes place. the
street vendors are very pushy and i had to shove chris at one as a
sacrifical lamb but mere made it through the line safe. in other news our
bus deserves a gold medal. it has made it through a river or two tilted to
an extreme angle, got a running start to make it up a hill and plays "when
a man loves a woman" "everything i do i do for you" and other cheesy
american songs. i know i for one miss some key people at home, including
john (whom i am also sending this too). it's easiest to just send one lump
email. this is also going to brian because that's the way we roll when
we're paying for the net out of our own pockets. we plan to go to the
market after this and have a look around, then maybe run out and say hey
to the masai. tomorrow i report for secondary school observation at 750am
and mere reports to the little kiddies at 930am (i got the short end of
the stick). however, since i have trouble waking up i am sure she will be
the one waking me. otherwise we love everyone this email is being sent to
and hopefully more will come sooner rather than later.
