Watching the movie called "Good Morning Vietnam" with no knowledge whats so ever of what the movie is about or who made it, one would think that this movie was fiction and wasn't based on any truths at all. Taken the time to research the minor details of this movie, like who made it and what inspired it, then you'd gain the knowledge that "Good ( Read more... )

Many of the documentary and real footage that was viewed in class showed us what commonly happens in Vietnam, whether it be in the battle field or in the towns or Vietnam, and back at home, showing movements such as protest against the war and also giving views on what majority of the people thought during that time. Yet most footages did not show a side of the many soldiers' and platoon's pride, camaraderie, courage, and dedication to the mission they were assigned. "Hamburger Hill" being one of those Hollywood movies that portrayed just that of situation. And to add this film was based on American military records on the battle on 'Hill 937.' The U.S. Army's 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment was assigned to the hill, having direct commands to take over the hill with all cost even though in the end the hill was never need for later usage. But they didn't know that. "Hamburger Hill" showed its audience the importance of never giving up, even in the worse of times when everything seemed to be failing, just give it your all. The ( ... )

"Platoon" is yet another film that shows more in depth footage of the behinds scenes of what it was like on the battle fields of Vietnam and how one starts out and becomes more adapt to the war with each battle he survives. It portrays how a newbie enters the line of duty and looks for a way to fit in just as he is starting out. Chris Taylor, the newbie, starts out with having no experience at all and being overly too excited for being in the war. Upon his first patrol he is already blamed for falling asleep on his shift with the North Vietnamese Army only a few short feet aways from the rest squad. Taylor earns a way to fitting in with his troop by being accepted in the 'heads' which was a social group in Sergeant Elias's troop that hung out in an underground club. Whether it was actual facts or just plain fiction that helped the plot move on, there were no mentions of underground clubs in any of the documentaries, either that or it was just never mentioned just like not mentioning any details about friendly fire, which is bound to ( ... )

"We Were Soldiers," another Hollywood film, although this one being based off a book called 'We Were Soldiers Once... And Young' written by Lieutenant General Hal Moore and reporter Joseph L. Galloway. This being a film that was based on true events and facts ( ... )
