give me three hundred words and I'll slip a TS Eliot quote into a fic so fast it'll make your head spin

HAHAHA I CONCUR. Replace 'TS Eliot quote' with 'scientific reference' and that's bang on.

WORDS! PLEASE

FOR YOU: linguistics, precise, double-helix, epiphany, illumination

And oh, man. I love your sneaky science. Your med-student references and my english-student ones should get together and have many geeky, multitalented disgustingly cute children. :DDD

*squints* Those are difficult words to talk about! But I'll do my best.

Can you imagine if we cowrote something? Normal people would be like, WHERE ARE THE REAL WORDS. THIS IS ALL SO BLOODY OBSCURE.

These are just the words that you make me think of, dammit! :P I never said I'd make it easy on you...

Our archetypal joint-story would really just be a paragraph long, with a three page bibliography, written to MLA guidelines.

(ALSO, WE SHOULD COWRITE SOMETHING SOMETIME. IT WOULD BE AWESOME. AT LEAST FOR US.)

amand_r gives good word. It may be cruel, but it hurts so good.

I love your erudition. Not at all pretentious, but know what you're sayin'.

She does, she does. :D

Hee, yeah, it's all about the erudition. In context. (And I realise I still haven't commented on Adaptation. Rest assured, I will, my brain is just distracted by NEW CANON ARGH and incapable of focusing on anything.)

Also, have you seen rivier's post with GDL's interview, blanked out for spoilers. Lots of interesting things. Inc. a view on Jack and Gwen that I thoroughly endorse! (And predicted, hah!) :)

Well, new canon comes first! The back catalogue isn't going anywhere.

And thanks for the linky link to rivier, great stuff in that interview!! And concur re: Jack&Gwen (although I think the attraction is very much there).

I think what's great is that it acknowledges the attraction-- sexual even-- that's clearly there in S1 & 2 but I think he's talking specifically about where they go in S3, and how each of the relationships has developed. I think that Jack and Gwen have changed, and what is between them has changed as well-- and considering I adore Jack-and-Gwen intimacy but maybe not so much the Take-Me-Away-From-All-This,-Jack Gwen that the writers trotted out every time they wanted to go there, I'm v excited about CoE. If only they managed to portray their sexual attraction without it being somehow One True Perfect Destined Love-y, it would have totally worked for me. (But sadly, not enough subtle writing and the weight of TV convention is against them-- ie, destined to be together boy and girl can never start out together, they must work their way through other partners/obstacles, which only further confirms they are meant to be together-ness)

At any given time I'm probably reading about three very different books, so that I always have one that'll suit my mood, because I'm enormously fickle.

i do that as well. usually very different books, so i get a bit schizo from all that. like now, i'm reading Chris Killen's The Bird Room, a biography of Cromwell (research! i say) and Regeneration.

I started off in fandom as a dedicated genfic writer-- even when my stories had relationships in them, they most certainly weren't ship-fic.

actually i think yours were the first HP fics i read for non-shippy reasons, which was a big first for me, i can tell you.

THE HOUSE OF BLACK! Eeee. Good times.

Ahahaha, wonderful. Converting the world to genfic, one shipper at a time. :D

And oooh. How's 'The Bird Room'? (And which biography of Cromwell?)

now that i think about it, yours was the first femmeslash i ever read, too.

The Bird Room is very nice. I picked it up because I like Chris Killen's blog but I'm enjoying the novel a lot. it's deceptively simple. and it has some wonderful darkness lurking under its ordinary tones. i totally recommend. (Antonia Fraser's biography of him. which is a bit bleh, but i'm trying to read EVERYTHING on the British Civil War -fiction and non-fiction- these days. i've started a novel in creative writing class and it's about that period. i'm considering doing the MA in novel writing next year and finish it. my teacher said she would back me in front of the selection commitee but it will depend on the money.)

IN THE COLUMN? Yeah. I AM BADASS.

I think they ended it, though. There was an ending post today. So unless this is a plotline, but I don't think it is, they're done. THAT IS ALL OKAY SINCE I GOT MY LETTER PUBLISHED WITH MAH NAME ON IT.

I would *so* love to beta for you! But I am on vacation this week and next and won't even have Internet for part of it *gasp* so I shall have to pass this time. In the future, though, drop me a line if you want.

Oh, thanks so much for the offer! I will most definitely take you up on it in the future.

And uh, *gulps* good luck without the internet (!) And noo, does this mean you'll be missing Children of Earth?

(Go go Team Wales!)
